Trust in Fediverse seems is fading - AND not being built on as relationships / networks etc - Here are my workings and estimations...
(Hope I'm not projecting this title and consider as a work in progress)
Hard to see what you see but I guess you use #Fediverse not much more than a few messages - and probably think "why do I need to more?" and "Not my fault if this place dies to the same reasons as before - it should all run without my care / attention / participation to it all!"
TLDR: Below is reasoning of general groups on Fediverse (and briefly their mindset / focus) and also what's going wrong added to these categories as I see / experienced / experiencing it in response to ideas in general, my ideas or observations of interactions with others (or lack of).
==========================
TLDR (bit longer - or skip to next section)
==========================
Basically groups of people who moved over from Twitter (mostly) and just use it in the same way... who *might* realise or not in time that their time is running out on Fediverse too as and bigger players are simply moving next door (literally Twitter, FB, Meta, Google / Alphabet Group going to dragnet and just move here)
Or continue to index the fuck out of us with no attempt by admins or users to protect us / themselves / their users from data-scraping / #AI stuff (soem I can't see but you know their patterns of profit are undoubted as their definition of their own existence)... STOP READING if you don't agree with this.
If you think predators or war makers changed from their pure-profit intentions and playing off people against themselves to gobble us like a Pacman dot... ●☻●☻●☻●☻ ◌ ◌ ◌ ◌ ◌ then stop reading and go back to commercialism comforts.
Anyway here is more on this:
=====================
Groups and basic reasoning why
=====================
█Boys and Toys
█Gamers, FPS shooter like war is ok or worth emptying so much time on
█Hobbiest / Modders / Fiddlers (PC. #Retro. #Retrocomputing, #PCB, #Lights etc)
█#Computing News ("oh wow this could really save the world again" stuff)
█(etc etc... overall humans dealing with non-humans as main material / time consumption / interaction spent
AND ALL here not caring to interact much, few posts back and forth MAX.
Verdict: "Humans are inefficient and imperfect therefore ignore / why try" types of people)
█Bourgeois (Too rich or Rich enough upper-middle class not to rock any boats and why spend time on those below you or those non-family people / non-blood related)
ANSWER: Like Martial Arts halls you improve the lower belts treating them like family who then come up and fight with you / teach next calls or generation...
Nobody wants to do that actively apart from a few posts.
█Alternative sexuality- #Trans #Anime #Fans... etc
People who escaped from masses of others not quite accepting or upto speed...
More active, vocal and trying that others... probably because their life depends on it and sexuality in danger by those confused by new and strange purely from not having experience / learning from mainsteam.
#War spectators - action watching
#Politics #uspol Trump etc no need say more - you know why you watch this stuff rather than work on something with us (in the other groups)
#more to come today... will revise this post v soon...

EXPLAINED STUFF / DISCLAIMER
(or skip to next section...)
=================
I included the word "you" here to make it "a bit more personal" so you question yourself to which category listed you fall in - and ask yourself if I'm approximately right (?).
It's totally ok to say this to yourself but consider coming out of your zone of comfort.
Made from first hand experience (attempts) and previous measured bias = a list of groups (on Fediverse but general groups too) who are perhaps not doing enough BUT also doing the opposite to their own ethos sometimes (much like Facebook while anti-Facebook and posting there a lot).
I estimate these groups as main reasons why for overall relationships / groups / networks are not to my level of expectation (while still leaving room for other group and reasons)
==================
EXAMPLES OF SLACKNESS / NO FIGHTBACK OF EVEN EASY STUFF
==================
Like "no consent" or simple footer for "no permission granted" or "information is not for scraping or used commercially" or CC-BY-SA-NC).
This includes Eugene / Gargon + my admin @freemo who I've asked a good while back either about Google links here feeding the commercial farms (Gargron) or adding a footer to our particular server (freemo).
How bad do people want to keep Fediverse and is there enough people to hold it? Right now, as conversation I'm not sure.
As admins and few conscious yes, but without help of masses and "upgrading" your users then your users are the weak point and we'll just move to the next thing or stick to being "bridged" ( #BlueSkyBridge #BlueSky #Threads )
I reserve right to correct myself or see if anyone has a good comeback to justify changing this - all is from positive want for better / more reasoning... but my account shows what I've tried a lot... I don't many other to call their account and try for these 'upgrade the weak-points' type of things called users...
users being just are not enough and we can encourage more!
re: Trust in Fediverse seems is fading - AND not being built on as relationships / networks etc - Here are my workings and estimations...
@infosec_jcp @freemo Thanks - will reply first to not lose touch and work backwards in response which I like from what I see flying through it and your suggestions...
Will write more in a moment and adding more to it (though the first you got well enough) and I think revisions don't offer much more right now) and will delete revision as I go... kind of to gain eye-balls as working copies and as a backup as I type too... more in a bit...
re: Trust in Fediverse seems is fading - AND not being built on as relationships / networks etc - Here are my workings and estimations...
Cool! Thanks👍🙋♂️
re: Trust in Fediverse seems is fading - AND not being built on as relationships / networks etc - Here are my workings and estimations...
@infosec_jcp @freemo █For sure I don't assume everything unproductive is not good or if I don't see it or some result "for me" then it's bad - but just overall like for a while (most of my life) and a whole generation of people (me included) we got wrapped up in Playstation or fiddling with windows (or newer version as Linux included) and types of "more of the same or a bit better" and as humans (including Admins) they mostly left behind humanity or less space for it or can't do more which I sympathise a bit but now they have to undo that now they have things mostly running and need to di it less...
I guess the level in person (across the board from street, church, parents etc) can't do than 2 mins chat or have distanced-belief that even if you get to the "yeah you're right" stage that they can go to "this is really the way as cringe as this is- it's humans not computers FTW MOSTLY!" - especially now we have all the tools we can run out so easily as own instances for a #jitsi chat or #docker 1 click type service etc (though that's really more recent to be honest - even a year maybe to be known or implemented)...
re: Trust in Fediverse seems is fading - AND not being built on as relationships / networks etc - Here are my workings and estimations...
@infosec_jcp @freemo █I'm not asking my admin for more - asked / begged enough as nice as what I got back is - I think there is a definite line and even worse not drawn quite clearly - it's more machines for the way than therapy / building from our server colony / population
█ I'm also deleting freemo as name-mention from these subsequent replies so he would have got first few which I think is enough if interested. He's also busy with other stuff right now (as much as I know and can 'speak' for him in limited way)
█ Like I've said on my posts "the business of growing people" vs. "growing of something else mostly government based" I think is the distinction I want to hear and from people
█🙋♂️ This hand up emoji - wondering what it means here at the beginning and end of message? Not too bothered or 2nd guessing you - but just making sure if this is a political gesture, just say, so it's clear as I don't see it often and you had the wave there already.
re: Trust in Fediverse seems is fading - AND not being built on as relationships / networks etc - Here are my workings and estimations...
@infosec_jcp [UPDATED - Nothing major]
Points, each starting with █:
█ I might be interested in adding to my list & discussion - but probably more organically and accurately finding those already interested else its over-extending one's welcome more often than not or pushing my agenda it seems to improve ourselves or find something relative to do.
█ ...the three feeds under the 🌐 icon?
Not sure what you mean but if you are suggesting the Global Feeds (Federated) to find interest randomly and view this feed, then yeah it can work and also a bit jumping in desperation to 'find friends' which is hit and miss...
People like work and projects to put that as focus but relationships like that can end as soon as work does (so no use any person sometimes, just adding to open source).
Global or random does not really seem relative enough (though nothing seemingly is!) though for sure more people I can follow AND THEN comment etc and see what happens... I guess I'm coming from already trying and spending energy or using people for "my own mission" (it's not their mission basically)... but maybe
Hashtags I'd say are a good way too with some global feeds occasionally... but really it's for others to do some work and even have faith / test some trust.
I dare say they are all weak in this way and strong in too common ways.
█ "If you are interested in following news here"...
Will have a look but what news?
Just following news? In general I'd like a way for contact and improve humans who want to do that themselves, and to put it in a short way "align themselves" since most is crooked / built by bloat etc...
so following and communicating needs all these things in the mix... a big ask I know.
█ ...ideally "they" (a group and some individuals) also come to me... but who really knows what a Freeschool is basically from 60's 70's and wants all-in almost with it's definition or to help new forms of it? ➡️ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=freeschool )
Who wants to use time literally to marathon explore ideas until we find "it" in between what they do already and that being the way to use less-expert masses as well as existing specialists.
█now it seems groups and causes only ask for money / donations 🤣 and nothign else... which is fine until it's only that 🙄 and not even way to feedback or uses the opposite-to-cause 3rd party platforms.
I've literally replied to all the these causes, and they have one or 2 replies back IF THAT. Mention money and you get a reply.
Some I'm part of this bad loop / dead end and it's just excuses for not doing human work which yes someone has to do... not willing to do the human work / stick to money or nothing is crap- from #RMS to unreplied #Email newsletters, even request feedback - just not much at all...
#AralBalkan and all those too busy or in their own thing, we need to unlock into something people process a bit better... but whatever... money or nothing mostly for the now...
█ Have you talked to some #fediverse server admins about their experience here on the fediverse vs. the Oligarch Controlled web hosting platforms?
Yep mostly on the money side - #Stux and some #FreeTrade people didn't understand all money starts out as debt (need to buy it first / get a loan).
#Gargron not seeing interest in suggesting to others to not use google on a not-for profit platform (Mastodon)... or using existing open source #Invidious links as simple recommendation post or option in Mastodon to auto-add alternative links or just anything to point people or software in the right leanings...
Paraphrasing (was a short reply) he said "I don't see why I should suggest to others, it's their link" as if ethos or software wasn't part of this and conversion should continue after you get software and then add lots of commercial links like an ad-farm on top (and I'm trying not to be umbrella extreme here but we're just becoming farms for them or do the same we would on twitter).
So if Mastodon can spend energy and time to sue people using Mastodon software incorrectly, perhaps they can defend a bit against companies scraping their platform and instances or have some PR about links?...)
Who else... let's say all I've come in contact with or throw myself into conversation lol
Although I accept my own analysis is limited, could be more etc and as you suggest "observe for longer" my answer is still NO THEIR LEVEL IS NOT ENOUGH BY FAR, to the an extent I'm sure people are too busy (I've analysed this too) from family, lack of sleep to everything else on top... which is why you / I have to sort everything eventually as a kind of therapy and alignment. Capitalism is sustaining people but not nourishing / encouraging love for their body etc... ok will cut it there...
█ feel free to DM people if you know them and they would want to reading this - it could be a kind of qualification to contacting me... as most read only short stuff like a type of short-sightedness or inability to filter while stll caring.
You are / were literally 1 in 100 in terms of speed / content etc.
█ Let's see how long you last too () said nicely here and all in the positive spectrum even if seemingly it sounds that it's not.

@freeschool
Hello @freemo 👋🙋♂️
I read through your above post and have some suggestions iF you are interested in adding to your list & discussion. Since the algorithm here is FIFO and also on the client side ( people / servers / scripts see your post and respond in kind with similar keywords & subjects ) who you follow and interact with matters. Most are real people but some are bots so keep that in mind.
Have you tried the three feeds under the 🌐 icon? Browsing that is one way to get exposed to people you don't follow already but you probably already know that based on your post above, yes?
If you are interested in following news here is a nice list to start with that is also actively being updated with global and local news sources:

You also mentioned a few things about data scraping and your current server admin not wanting to add or adopt an anti-data scraping / anti-LLM language. Not all servers are pro-LLM. Some servers have policies about that already such as where I am hosted on server wise here :
⛔ LLM / AI Data Scraping 🤖🚫

You could adopt your own #UserPrivacyPolicy also, for free, so feel free to copy it and link in your profile to have your own Privacy Policy. Mine is specifically about commercial LLM's and to not use my data / posts for commercial LLM's as input. I also have this same policy for myself linked on Twitter. You could change the language if you want to also include noncommercial LLMs if you want:

Have you talked to some #fediverse server admins about their experience here on the fediverse vs. the Oligarch Controlled web hosting platforms? One thing that _constantly_ comes up as a comparison is moderation practices which are different per server vs. the Oligarch Web Hosting ones in the way they are run. Having control of the moderation policy for your own system, like in the BBS Bulletin Board & USENET days, is important and can be set by your admin and moderators by their moderation policy on their server. This is usually called out and linked to in the https:// server-url-example . tld / about page.
One thing of note though about ' what you think is wrong per group ' though is perhaps the way those group dynamics are playing out is how that group interacts, perhaps. Not all interactions observed by someone not in said group ' is something going wrong ' so maybe what is happening is what that group is interested in which could be a misunderstanding perhaps? Observe for longer and engage with the group could be an age / culture / interest / local / regional / national / cultural / tradition thing where you may or may not know about a specific thing that could seem negative but in that specific group could be an ' in joke ' or ' sh!tpost ' type meme situation, perhaps.
Thanks for sharing your analysis! 🙋♂️🌐👋
