@girls_can that even the inflation-adjusted value is not automatically included tells us everything we need to know about the anti-public sector nature of this list. that people do all sorts of shit analyses of this list tells us everything we need to know about those people.
A $100k salary in 2023 is equivalent to making $57k in 1996.
Oh look. #ontario released their #sunshinelist 🙄. Invented by #Conservative premier Harris in 1996 to #nameAndShame public servants earning top salaries ($100k before taxes), it hasn’t been adjusted for #inflation once in nearly 30 years. The median after tax income in Canada reached $66,800 in 2020! $100 K before tax is not outrageous, but Conservatives whip up populist outrage pointing out how many #nurses and #teachers are on it every year 😡
@montepaulsen I read the article, and none of the 35 ways said any of:
-Lobby your politicians at all levels to stop the extraction and use of fossil fuels
-Lobby your politicians at all levels to promote and subsidise the introduction and use of renewable energy
-Lobby your politicians at all levels to put a price on emissions, and subsidise the use of renewable energy in power production and transportation, between them responsible for 50% of global emissions
-Lobby your politicians at all levels to stop tax breaks, subsidies and incentives for companies and industries that extract and sell fossil fuels
-Tell everyone that “carbon footprint” is a marketing ploy created by fossil fuel companies to take the spotlight off them and emitting industries, and convince individual consumers that *they* are responsible for the problem, even though they don’t write the laws, decide the taxes, or choose the incentives for all the industries that generate the emissions.
I’m not sure why.

The #ClimateCrisis poses a threat to the survival of coral reefs and other marine ecosystems. We must #ActNow to protect our oceans for a healthier planet.

#2023 has “End of The #Roman Empire” vibes and you know what came next. Reading the #ipcc synthesis is depressing. Watching #publichealth crumble is alarming. Watching #populism rise and #wealth become ever more concentrated is threatening. But here is something #hopeful! Are we on the cusp of cheap, abundant #cleanenergy? What can we do with it? How can we make it real?

To slow #climatechange, the world will have to shift:
☀️ how it generates and uses energy
🚌 how it transports people and goods
🌳 how it designs buildings and grows food
We have the proven solutions to do it, but we need to embrace innovation and not fear change.
It's amusing to me that star trek imagined a world where an AI faces social rejection because he's rational, fact based, literal, fiercely/dogmatically moral, and struggles with social nuance. But here in reality we invented AIs that have no concept of truth, give zero fucks about accuracy, have no rationality, and can't do math, but match vibes and tone nearly perfectly.
