A cool approach to #climatemusic, for sure.

This was taken in 2016 in the Arctic Ocean. I was inspired by eight million voices from around the world calling for Arctic protection.
Today is Earth Day and there's still an urgent need of help to support the work in the environmental movement.

Developers handing politicians envelopes of cash and police concluding there's nothing wrong with that.
"Police say they found no criminal wrongdoing and no charges will be laid after prominent Niagara-on-the-Lake land #developer Benny Marotta gave Cllr. Gary Burroughs an envelope containing $10,000 in cash."
The birdsite continues its downward slide, I am rebuilding almost an decade's worth of relationships and connections here on Mastodon. If you see this, please boost.
This mirrors what is reported by @ukhsa.
Vaccine protection against severe outcomes began declining faster with BQ.1 and XBB.1.5 variants than with previous variants.
This also helps explain increasing excess mortality in Canada over fall/winter.

It’s not just you: The planet wants a 4-day workweek, too.

I’ve written an open letter asking organisations that engage online with the blind community to come to Mastodon in light of the significant #accessibility regressions at Twitter.
If you agree, please sign it and share it as widely as you can. This is one occasion where if we can show how many of us care about this issue, it will make it clear that it’s worth companies putting in the effort to be here.
I would also be very grateful for the support of our sighted friends.
Thank you.

This blogger gets it:
""Most importantly however: the fediverse is a movement, presently engaged in the woefully under-reported fight for an equitable and just internet, and it needs the champions of the fourth power in its corner to stand a chance of winning.
This is no time for editorials and opinion pieces. What we civilians need from you at this time is your attendance at the gathering space....
Grow the garden-like town square together with everyone else."

My latest: For the past few years, Antarctic sea ice has been in rapid decline. And now there are worrying indications that its loss will speed melt of the West Antarctic ice sheet, and slow the ocean's carbon-absorbing overturning circulation.
And this will happen, unfortunately, no matter where emissions go from here. (Though more emissions *will* make it worse in the long run!)

These two bright bois are off to their homes on Monday.
Yellow isn't typically a color I surround myself with. But I am really loving the spring-time feel of them both. Hopefully their new homes will enjoy them as much as I have!

@girls_can @DemocracyMattersALot as long as Fox News is allowed to keep pumping bs into people’s heads, the chance of any major changes on the right is virtually zero. Just like you pointed out with Covid. These people all watched their friends and families die from it but still disregard the virus and believe the vaccine is more dangerous bc that’s what fox told them. Unreal
👀 "Doug Ford is a vulgarian who worships at the altar of a plastic pro-development Jesus. He is in thrall to the Vegas-i-zation of Toronto’s public spaces and the urban sprawl of this metropolis"
- @rdimanno
The cartoon by Graeme McKay depicting Ford's "Vegas Vision" for the public park at #OntarioPlace is from..2019.
At the time, Ford's wish-list included a gambling casino, a 1.6-million-sq-ft “megamall", and an amusement park, with the world’s largest ferris wheel.
In Europe, I go everywhere by passenger rail, on high-speed electric trains. In Canada and the US, I'm stuck on slow, late diesel trains. I explore this sad situation—and offer a little hope for the future—in my latest Straphanger dispatch on Substack
“Eliminating parking requirements can have this huge impact on the quality of life and sustainability of a community,” said Sara Bronin, an architecture professor at Cornell University. “It is among the most significant changes that a local government can make.”
