@chrissanders88 That’s understandable. I just hope at some point decentralized video hosting takes off like Madtodon is starting to. I thought YouTube’s data collection and social manipulation were bad, and then came TikTok. Sigh.

@chrissanders88 I’d love to watch your videos without using TikTok (or YouTube). Would you consider putting them on a PeerTube server?

Discovering My Diagnosis
I've spoken with Lindsay Guentzel a couple of times about ADHD, both as a provider who helps people with this diagnosis and as a person who lives with the symptoms. @AdaraAstin That’s funny, because I feel the same way! I don’t narrate books for a living, but I’ve been reading aloud to my kids for an hour or two almost every night for about a dozen years. I love it, but sometimes I want someone to read to me!

Had a flat tyre on my #bicycle today.

Changed it and somehow managed to do something for my gears to stop working.

So I stopped by the #bike workshop and got the bike mechanic to fix it for me. Half an hour and $35 later my gears are running better than before.

Plus I think I learned how to sort them out myself next time.

So tonight my #gratitude is for friendly mechanics, simple fixable systems and cheap sustainable transportation.

@freemo @ufoi I voted to leave the white button as it is, pointing to getting started. However, I think the code of ethics should be more prominently linked. At the least it should be an item in the site navigation menu.

@ufoi I've updated my server Magpie's rules to reflect the Code of Ethics. Because it's such a small instance and I have a personal IRL relationship with all its users, I hadn't bothered to post official server rules before. It feels good to have the UFoI code there now.

Accidentally boosting something I really didn't even want to see in my feed feels remarkably icky.

A reminder for anyone new to mastodon who might not be happy with some of the racist and bad actors out there on other servers... Just import the fediblock list to your personal blocks and you will be safe from the vast majority of bad actors.

𝑺𝑻𝑶𝑹𝑴⛈️
I took all the domains from https://fediblock.neocities.org/ block list and put it in a csv file that can be imported so you can block all hateful ...

@TheGasMan That's a great question! The answer is, unsurprisingly, a little complicated. I think it comes down to two things: individual action and cooperation within groups.

As an individual user, you have the power to block other individual users and even entire servers from which you don't want to see content. You can block the vast majority of bad actors by following the instructions in this post: qoto.org/web/statuses/10930368

Now for group-level actions...

The administrators of individual instances/servers have the ability to set content and moderation standards for the communities represented by those instances. They can also block individual accounts on other instances, or entire other instances with which they don't want to be connected. The action of one instance blocking another is called defederation.

The ability for instances to defederate from each other is a powerful tool for limiting the reach of bad actors at the level of instances, but it also has the potential to fracture Mastodon and the Fediverse into a number of walled-garden communities that are isolated from each other.

In order to address this challenge, a bold and exciting new proposal has been put forward for democratic cooperation within a United Federation of Instances . The conversation about what that would look like is happening now. If you'd like to be part of it, follow the hashtag and the group @ufoi.

Thank you for all the shares and what not on my last image. I don't have a clue what I'm doing this far on here but I'll keep sharing my images and bumble my way through it. Isle of Skye, Sligachan. #scotland #photography #landscape #sunset #mountains #isleofskye
