Granted that not all projects in the queue will be built, but is becoming increasingly clear that the biggest barrier to electricity decarbonization today is not the cost of clean energy, but rather our ability to build the transmission to accommodate it.

This stat from @shannonosaka@twitter.com in the WaPo today is nuts: washingtonpost.com/climate-env

"At the end of 2021, there were 8,100 projects sitting in line, waiting for permission to get connected. Together, they represent more than the combined power capacity of all U.S. electricity plants"

This is a big deal. USPS will get 66k delivery trucks to replace some of the old gasoline ones.

washingtonpost.com/business/20

@drvolts this is great news indeed! does this mean that the old plan of DeJoy to replace the current trucks with gasoline ones is dead?

Ha ha, yes!

SCOOP: USPS will electrify delivery trucks by 2026 in climate win for Biden

USPS had recently pledged to go 40% EV. This new purchase plan now gets it to 75% by 2026, and all electric afterward.

Huge, huge news for USPS and Biden climate agenda.

This is absolutely insane. A mom was prevented from taking her daughter to a Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall because she works for a law firm litigating against the venue's parent company. They spotted her with facial recognition technology according to this report: nbcnewyork.com/investigations/

@nataliemj@mastodon.social yes, this is a very nice feature. it does take a while to start using it consistently. I still often forget.

@charlottekl Agreed. In Ontario the masking measures are driven by policy on the provincial level. Our medical establishment is **still** refusing to accept that COVID is airborne and all preventive measures have only been against droplet transmission. But even so, doctors and nurses should really know better and N95 level masks are easily available and cheap.

I just had a knee surgery at Toronto Western and their attitude to masking is somewhat
laissez faire. On one hand they do ask everyone to wear masks in the hospital website and most people do. on the other hand this is not enforced **at all** and some people don't. Also, I didn't see anyone beside me in N95 level masks either among the staff or visitors.

#BBC just ran an interview with someone modeling #China #Covid in the next few months, and it is pretty ugly. 1.7MM dead by Summer. 200MM+ cases.

exactly. if Musk remains the owner and gets someone competent to do his bidding twitter will just be competently evil as opposed to incompetently evil as it is right now.
