Mars and the Moon through clouds. 1754UT 7 December 2022. Handheld. #AstroDon #Astronomy #Astro #Space #Astrophotography
Continuing Lighthouse Week on @Rjdlandscapes , this time Castlepoint lighthouse on the East coast of the North Island, a couple hours north of Wellington
This was shot during a 4 day visit running an astro photography workshop with Mark Gee
I ended up spending the rest of the long weekend in bed sick so didnt get anywhere near the exploring done I had hoped 😞

I love how the #artemis1 #spacecraft casually flew by the #moon yesterday -- taking video of at least two craters you can see in a small #telescope.

Here is my SH2-170 Little Rosette image, a total of 26 hours exposure in narrowband across [SII], H-alpha and [OIII]. It has been a tough target to image and has taken many sessions across a month of imaging due to poor weather. Taken with an Atik 383L+ and 190MN telescope #Astronomy #Astrophotography #Space #Narrowband #Astrodon #Nebula #Sharpless #Photography
Good evening!
Here comes my starless and rather experimental narrowband version of the famous Orion Nebula (M42). Exposure: in total 9 hours of halpha, SII & OIII data.
Gear: 152/900mm refractor, ASI1600mm Pro & Avalon Linear mount.
A bitterly cold, moonlit night with Jupiter bright in the south and Mars a fiery red in the east. I was attempting to get some images of Mars but always struggle with focus on the big reflector... To test things out I went over to the Moon and got some nice views. This image shows the huge crater Pythagoras right on the edge of the Moon. It is about 140km wide and the central mountains, picked out by the light, reach up to 3km high! #Astrophotography #Astronomy #Moon
Here is an image I captured of Jupiter back in September. I captured it on the Milwaukee Astronomical Society's A-Scope, a 12.5 inch Newtonian reflector specifically tuned to observing the planets. ( https://www.milwaukeeastro.org/observatories/aScope.asp )
#photomonday here's a quick shot from #bearsears. This was one of my first half-way decent #astrophotography shots.

My husband took this photo in 2020, it shows Comet Neowise over the Longstone at Mottistone on the #IsleofWight.
We have wonderful dark skies here which really helped. We made the walk up to the neolithic monument late at night which was really magical. I was given a torch and duly light painted the Longstone with it whilst my husband snapped away.
We had our teenage son with us and once we had the shot we sat down and stargazed. #StandingStoneSunday
Today in 1945, Dr. Roberta Bondar is born in Sault Ste. Marie. An original member of the Canadian Astronaut Corps, she went to space, becoming Canada's first female astronaut, in January 1992. Spending eight days in space, she was also the first neurologist in space.

Back to shooting in mono. This is the double cluster in Perseus! They are 300 lys apart, but look right next to each other and have not been imaged often.🔭Explore Scientific ED127 📷ZWO ASI1600 mm pro ⏰90x30s processed in RGB in PixInsight. I like the star colors, and hope you enjoy it!

The waxing December moon yesterday afternoon.📷

My first attempt at a photo of the Orion Nebula, also known as M42, or NGC 1976. I overexposed it and lost detail in the centre, though it shows up the dust clouds at the edges nicely.

#Astrophotography. The galaxy M81 in LRGB broadband imaged during November from home using an Atik 460EX mono CCD camera on my 132mm aperture William Optics refracting telescope and processed using PixInsight. The steps used were Dynamic Background Extraction then the plate solver script followed by Spectrophotometric Colour Calibration, then the Generalised Hyperbolic Stretch script and finally LRGB combination to make the full colour result. I hope you enjoy seeing this beautiful photo.
On the fifth day of #StarrySights #NASA #Hubble gave to me -- bright, blue-white stars in a nebulous open cluster called NGC 1858!😍

I fell in love with space as a teenager, after watching the movie Apollo 13 in 1996. I still want to be an astronaut!
