There's a really good community feature on here called groups. It works like this:
1. Follow a group's account
2. You will start seeing posts on that topic
3. You can post to the group by @-ing it
For example, follow @tea to see posts about tea.
It's more powerful than following hashtags, as all group posts are actively pushed to all of the group's members. No one misses anything.
Find out more at https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/, and I've curated some nice active groups at https://fedi.directory/tag/fediverse-groups/
@JeriLRyan the apps are so important to the platform. Ivory is a jewel and it makes browsing Mastodon a delight. Everything is smooth and feels just right. Other great apps (soma already mentioned) are Mona and Ice Cubes. The success of Mastodon definitely will fall on the shoulders of 3rd party apps.
@Lost_World it looks like one of Zelda’s TotK chasms into the underworld…
Ben & Jerry’s Ends Paid Advertising on Twitter Due To Proliferation of Hate Speech
"The platform has become a threatening and even dangerous space for people from so many backgrounds, including people who are Black, Brown, trans, gay, women, people with disabilities, Jewish, Muslim and the list goes on. This is unconscionable in addition to being plain bad business."

And like Twitter, Reddit is going full greedy and committed to kill third-party apps like Apollo and destroy their service. Every day, it’s clearer that open alternatives are the only way for social media. As for me, I’ll slowly walk away from Reddit and increase my focus on Micro.blog and Mastodon. https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/13ws4w3/had_a_call_with_reddit_to_discuss_pricing_bad/
Got off my call with Reddit just now about the API. Bad news unless I come up with 20 million dollars. Appreciate boosts. https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/13ws4w3/had_a_call_with_reddit_to_discuss_pricing_bad/
Happy 20th anniversary, Wordpress!
"Today is the 20th anniversary of the first release of WordPress. None of us knew what we were getting into when it started, but we had a shared conviction that the four freedoms of the GPL combined with a mission to democratize publishing was something worth spending our time on. There will be celebrations in cities around the world, please join if there’s one happening near you."

@Wolven it’s just so wrong at so many levels! Who could really think using a LLM trained from the internet (the universal source of misinformation and bs) could help them write a scientific paper with actual facts?
That and providing OpenAI with access to all your unpublished results for whatever they’re using their user input/interaction data, which is totally obscure and many countries have raised concerns about it.
Hey y'all, i know you know this, but while you definitely shouldn't use GPTs for legal research, also don't rely on GPTs for RESEARCH, PERIOD.
They are neither giving nor TRYING to give you intersubjectively associated and derived facts; they are not even remixing factual CONCEPTS into new forms.
They are modelling human biases out into digestible bullshit with a statistically-determined high probability of being swallowed.
That is all.
They don't have to be this way, but, at present, the people making them have no incentive to change them. So. Don't lean on them for fact stuff. It's not what they do.
@simonbs I did a shortcut a while ago to record some health-related events such as heartburn, headache and so on. Of course, it was limited by what Apple health allows to record. This idea is great! It would be a way to simplify my other approach: a logs database in scriptable with shortcuts as input and Charty as the output.
Little manuscript submitted! We created a very easy to use script to automatically recognize and count cells that are too close to each other to be easily counted, even by hand. Proud of the hours I poured into this protocol. Now wait for editors to decide whether to publish or not. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.05.26.542420v1
The loss of access to Twitter data under the new pricing plan was a dire blow to our research at the UW-CIP.
Now being forced to delete the data that dozens of people spent years collecting, curating, and studying—outrageous. It’s like burning lab notebooks, an attack on science for the sake of pure malice.
