"I’d want them to know that 295 million people in the world have moderate-to-severe visual impairment, and 43 million are blind. This total is roughly equivalent to the entire population of the United States."

@jaysonmassey what qualifies as moderate to severe? I am considered "legally blind", meaning i am legally required to wear glasses when driving. Woukd i count?

@freemo Just used DuckDuckGo.

Moderate visual impairment

Severe visual impairment

@freemo @jaysonmassey Blind for US federal tax purposes is corrected vision of 20/200 or worse.

For driving in California you need corrected vision of 20/40 or better to get a drivers license, although you can get a 30 day extension at 20/70 in order to get new glasses. Below 20/40 you need a doctors signed form and need to take a vision driving test. You have to be at least 20/200 to get a vision driving test. If you have a progressive condition like cataracts and 20/40 or worse you need to take the driving test every two years.
