Ban private planes. No one is special enough to get to ruin the planet for dinner in another city or continent. Plan ahead.

1990s web experience

- Open site in browser
- Watch framework of site gradually appear
- Start reading site text
- View images once they load
- Click a hyperlink to more information on the thing you're looking for

2020s web experience

- Open site in browser
- Wait for Cloudflare to verify you aren't a bot
- Wait for background movie to load
- Dismiss cookie popup
- Decline to subscribe to their mailing list
- Decline to speak to a chatbot that promises it's a human
- Scroll infinitely looking for the information you want that's probably not there since it's all generated text intended for other robots to read anyway

Things that do not and will not exist:

- a perpetual motion machine.
- a computer solving the halting problem.
- an AI with a trillion parameters, trained on users' data, that preserves privacy and is robust to misinformation and data manipulation.

Someone on Twitter wrote that “children’s rights should absolutely override privacy rights” and honestly, that shook me. The reason I care about privacy so much is because I have kids, and I don’t want them to grow up in the kind of world that person would build.

@filippo I think it's obvious and that question is disingenuous.

Consent for human followers who were allowed to follow and not blocked to read your posts does not imply consent for rando projects/orgs to store and process your posts in bulk with those of millions of other users for random other purposes.

I am quite disgusted by the the use of the term Web3.

No the Web does not need more Crypto and Blockchain. We need to rid the Web of Crypto and Blockchain.

Some say that data is the new oil. I guess that may be true, if you consider that oil usage is destroying the planet.

Some think that what we need is more companies spying on their customers and sharing that data with each other. IMHO, what we need is the opposite. We need to ban this destructive business model.

Some even think that the problem is that we are not getting our fair share. Basically that we are not getting our share of the loot. The problem is the looting, not how it is divided.

Google's search teams will build AI text and image tools into the search engine.

The Google Assistant teams will incorporate their own AI creation solution.

Clearly, the Android team will say, this is a mobile computing issue, so there'll be an Android app. Preinstalled and separate to the assistant AI and the search AI.

No, the Chrome/ChromeOS folks will say, this really needs to be baked into the browser.

The Google Workspace folk will create an enterprise app for it. Separately, AI writing will be built into Google Docs.

Three separate messaging teams will say it's a chat problem, and clearly what Google needs is a new chat app (or four) to solve it.

YouTube and Google Photos will see this as a video/photo problem, and will incorporate AI creation tools.

Google Cloud will create a cloud-based solution for third-party developers.

None of these tools will be interoperable. Different APIs. Most will be quietly closed within 12 months without warning.
