Big Tech is getting more and more involved in politics. During the last US election, Crypto bros spent more than $100 million on the election, which got some of them out of jail. Now Big Tech is active again, this time with focus on AI, as reported in this Washington Post article.

It is time to take a stand against companies that behave this way.

To spell this out clearly, the reason RAM has quadrupled in price is that a huge quantity of RAM that hasn't been produced yet has been bought with money that doesn't exist to populate GPUs that also haven't been produced to go in datacenters that haven't been built powered by infrastructure that may never exist to meet a demand that doesn't exist at all to make profit margins that mathematically can't exist while economists talk about this thing they call the "rational markets hypothesis".

I am still confused by how in a modern OS I can't trivially limit how much CPU time, disk bandwidth and network bandwidth an app gets to use. It should be right there in the Task Manager. Like - that's the whole point of an OS - to manage that stuff. So why not let ME THE USER manage that stuff?

Something that hasn't been made clear: Firefox will have an option to completely disable all AI features.

We've been calling it the AI kill switch internally. I'm sure it'll ship with a less murderous name, but that's how seriously and absolutely we're taking this.

@mfennvt @RickiTarr This reminds me of a news show investigating if doctors listened to women. A number of men & women, with hidden cameras, went to various Drs, recited exact same script. Men were immediately sent to have heart testing. Women? “Take a nice bath. You seem a bit stressed. “

it's truly amazing what LLMs can achieve. we now know it's possible to produce an html5 parsing library with nothing but the full source code of an existing html5 parsing library, all the source code of all other open source libraries ever, a meticulously maintained and extremely comprehensive test suite written by somebody else, 5 different models, a megawatt-hour of energy, a swimming pool full of water, and a month of spare time of an extremely senior engineer
