@Somekindofgarf yeah it's wild!! I have so many algorithms to learn 😭
@trinsec yes, he said he was still recovering a few days later. Think he said it was the wrists.
Jeez, 6931 cubes solved in 24 hours! That's one ultramarathon of a #speedcubing session!
This is just a friendly interview after the fact.

Er det dårlig tegn at #nrkdebatten med direkte spørsmål til Mjøs Pedersen nærmest blir pute-TV?
Understanding #Mastodon gets easier once you get the basic idea that federation between servers can be understood as homeomorphisms across hyperplanes between the Riemannian manifolds of toots, whereas the servers represent countable finite sets of discrete entities.
Many companies are making sweeping carbon neutrality claims "based on purchases of low-quality carbon offsets that experts rate as useless".
A new expose from @climate@twitter.com: https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2022-carbon-offsets-renewable-energy
We have decided to create an account at Mastodon. We need time to learn how this platform works but also how to synchronize our work here with the Twitter account.
Thank you all for joining us here. No matter where we are, the mission stays the same. We are in social media to commemorate the victims of Auschwitz and educate the world about the tragic story of the camp.
One of my favorite scientific myths is the idea that medical error is the "third leading cause of death"
The idea comes from a truly atrocious paper that made numerous basic errors, and therefore it's a good marker for whether people apply even the most basic critique to evidence that supports their opinions
I reviewed the paper on my blog https://gidmk.medium.com/medical-error-is-not-the-third-leading-cause-of-deaths-ff13c71851b
@mastodonusercount does anyone monitor this thing? Any chance we can see this on different timescales?
@randomwalker I very much agree that additional ways to display toots are called for. I'm missing out a lot from my own timeline simply because I'm in a different schedule to many of the people I follow.
But at the same time I fear that this will give incentives for bots and other ways to falsely amplify favourites, boosts, views and whatever metrics the algorithm will be based on. There might be ways to filter out assumed forgeries, but then those decisions also need openness.
Twitter emboldened people with outrageously bad takes or racist & bigoted views to share them for the rush of a viral tweet. It silenced already marginalized voices through threats & intimidation.
Twitter rewarded narcissism with follows & gave tremendous power to people least deserving of leadership roles or equipped for public service.
It was never the “town square” but often the mob with pitchforks & torches. If #Twitter falls, democracy & humanity will be better off. #TwitterMigration
“I think we [journalists] got lazy as a field, and we let Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, and, god help us, Elon Musk and their staff decide all these major journalistic questions.”
I couldn’t agree more with journalist @adamdavidson in this thoughtful and reflective Q&A about joining #Mastodon

Dutch government will stop using Facebook if it doesn’t improve private data handling

Any advice for using an ebike in very cold weather? I noticed last year when I rode in ~15°F/-7.5°C weather it seemed like the battery drained fast. The manual says don't ride below -5°F/-20°C, which is many unridable commutes.
Is there a way to extend the cold range? Could I insulate the battery during the ride and take it in with me? #BikeTooter #eBike #cold #coldBiking
I'm following lots of interesting people here on Mastodon. But I'm clearly on a different schedule/timezone to many of them, because I don't see their toots unless I manually go digging. I appreciate the simplicity of the chronological timeline, but it's kind of difficult to discover stuff. Are there any pro tips?
