For the SF Chronicle, I wrote about getting canceled from #twitter (& switching to Mastodon):

It’s an honor to get canceled by Musk, who is welcoming neo-Nazis back to Twitter while banning reporters. Still, it’s admittedly terrifying to see him cross the bright red line of declaring outright war against freedom of the press.

Twitter has become a virtual simulation of authoritarian rule.

Not to flex, but I’ll be making 2.5x my normal 19.25/hr today. So I’m making 48.12 for a 12h shift today, and another 12 tomorrow. That’s 1100 buck...

@QasimRashid There are literally hundreds of millions of white folk that do want to hear about ways we can reduce all of those bad things. I work with them. We don't need everyone on every issue. It's cool.

But don't aask me "What do you mean Mastodon is not welcoming to Black folk?" And then in the very next breath, say, "Yeah, yeah, I'm sure Black folk are mistreated, but I don't want to hear about it! CW that garbage! It's making me sad!" Just be real, and only say the second part.

"Racism is so bad?! I didn't know!" Is a cop out. It's a crime in two parts. The first part is intentional actions that people take to make sure that they don't know how bad the racism is.

Sometimes it's in 3 parts. Party A makes sure that Party B doesn't know how bad the racism is. Then party B can happily enjoy life while party C is brutalized. That's the whole CRT debate, and the Texas board of education in a nutshell.

Willfull ignorance is not the same as innocence.

So I've moved!

I live at hachyderm.io now. Unfortunately, I can't recommend mastodon.cloud anymore. The typical user might not be able to navigate what I did. I'll explain in the next post behind a Content Warning, because it's not nice.

But new neighbours, what's good! 🙋🏿‍♂️

I just watched my neighbor's dog chase its tail for 10 minutes and I thought to myself, Wow dogs are easily entertained. Then I realized, I just watched my neighbor's dog chase its tail for 10 minutes.

My intro from 2017 is a bit outdated so hey! I'm Fi and I am a 3d environment artist for games 👋

An irregular reminder that calling this place "Mastodon" has a bit similar energy as saying "I just sent you a GMail."

"Fediverse" (or "fedi") is a better term.

Mastodon is just one of many software projects that talk to each other to create this multi-instance social network:

(kudos to @axbom for this fantastic infographic!)

There are blogs, Reddit-like communities, video instances and many more, all part of fedi.

Well I’m sitting here holed up on hump day of an accelerated learning bootcamp I’m delivering in Bedfordshire, I’ve just finished the last S4 E6 of on and I’m not disappointed. Filmed in Yorkshire and Monaco during 2021 lockdown, the ending packs a punch with just the right mixture of light and shade, both cathartic, it turns out, tightly delivered by the strong ensemble cast both human and animal. m.imdb.com/title/tt13368752/?r 🐶

The collapse of a startup leaves implanted medical devices in > 700 people

The unavailability of the proprietary SW needed to recalibrate the devices and maintain its effectiveness, and the draining of batteries, will leave them without treatment and with HW implanted in their bodies

They have to hack their own implants

And it is not an isolated case but a trend

The only real failure is a failure to learn from failure.

I saw a post on Reddit about how to cancel an Adobe subscription without the asshole "early cancellation fee" and figured it's worth sharing:

1. Login to your adobe account
2. Go to plans and payments
3. Find your current plan and select "Manage Plan"
4. The third box on the right should say "Cancel Plan"
5. It will ask you why, tell them "Go fuck yourself" and press continue
6. It will offer you to change plans, select "Photography plan (20GB)" - $9.99
7. Confirm the change
8. Now go back to your Plans and it may say "You'll be able to manage this plan shortly" and that's because there is a waiting period after starting a plan, probably to ensure you forget to cancel or something. Took about an hour for it to go away, so if it's there just walk away and refresh the page every 15 minutes or so.
9. Once you are able to manage your plan, repeat steps 3, 4, and 5. This time actually cancel the plan. There will be no early cancellation fee AND you'll be refunded the $9.99.

Fuck adobe.
