My instutition is willing to join Mastodon soon. However, one of the reasons holding it back on the bird site is the difficulty of setting up cross-posting now that Musk has closed twitter's API... does anyone have a workaround for this? @wikidata @egonw@scholar.social @academicchatter

Wow this is quite new! The imagination of fraudulent scientists is limitless! @academicchatter

Having one's paper rejected by reviewer 2 is always a painful experience. Fortunately, this time, reviewer 1 made my day:

- Reviewer 2: "I am doing a quick turn around on this ms because I do not believe the data are of sufficient interest or significance to merit publication. I wish I could offer a way to salvage the paper."

- Reviewer 1: "Above all I should admit really appreciating the work presented, ranking it as the most interesting I have read over the last few years. Clearly predefined hypotheses; statistical analyses defined prior to data collection; easy access to all data and software; modelling of the empirical observations; and a measurement paradigm novel to our field: the MS has all the ingredients one expects in high quality research. Hence I take the opportunity to thank and congratulate the authors with their work."

To continue on the issue of in selection committees, it seems to me that there are two levels on which to act. First, to reduce the influence of biases in the decision, for example by choosing the selection criteria before looking at the applications. However, this kind of tools is not enough: even if we manage to eliminate judgment biases, blindly basing the decision on merit is unfair for candidates facing discrimination or coming from countries where research is less developed, and who did not have the same opportunities as others. Complementary tools are therefore proposed, for example, considering the potential of candidates and not their achievements. I think this aspect is important, but more difficult to implement: Given that not all members of the jury are sensitive to the issue of discrimination, it can be tricky to argue that we want to put forward a candidate with a lesser CV because we think he or she has greater potential... assessing achievements is a bit like "counting points", whereas assessing potential seems more subjective. Do any of you have a concrete experience of how to deal with this in a jury? @academicchatter

Hello @academicchatter ! I am part of a jury that selects students for our master program (application review + interviews). What are your tips for reducing and all forms of to a minimum? (@jesswade maybe?)

@academicchatter A related question: we may have to look for a server hosted in Europe, due to French regulation... but I have trouble finding this information, as I'm far from a expert. @freemo where are the servers based? Is there any chance I can create an account for my lab here? Thanks!

Hello @academicchatter! I'd like to create an account for my lab on Mastodon... Any advice on which server to choose? Is there anything in particular I should be careful about?

I am preparing a presentation about the ongoing projects of our research team in Paris, and I realized that it may be worth sharing as a thread as an for the @cognition @psycholinguistics community in the ⬇️
