To the 11 people who wished me a happy birthday by commenting on my mum's Facebag post, a type of greeting that only is getting to me because I wanted to write this, I thank you heartily, but I can't help but feel like you wished me a happy birthday more for the sake of your relationship with my mother than your relationship with myself. Of course, you'll never see this and I'm thanking you more for the sake of my relationship with people other than yourself. Turnabout is fair play.

I've been overhearing a lot of prank call recordings because apparently those are a thing.

Let it be known that if someone were to get someone to call me with an attempt at a prank call, I'd probably never speak to them again.

@sabbatical We have the exact same pens at the office, but just with name and url… time to ask for a fresh batch, I dare say

I've realised that 100% of my intentional meatspace socialising (i.e. the kind that is draining but also necessary for me) is not for reasons that I intentionally want to socialise.

I keep having thoughts like "if I had the time and energy, I'd start a club"

I am getting really fed up with websites demanding that I train their machine learning algorithms to prove I'm human.

The web is so much better if you only have to see the things you want to see

I keep humming Matchmaker and discovering I've switched to Chim Chimminy

@sabbatical I still use elk.zone a lot and it's nice, but Phanpy's customization is nice. My landing page is two columns: notifications and bookmarks. That's what I want to see before I go in and start reading new things

@sabbatical Wow! I'd find any "sermon" about politics in that way to be very off-puttting, even if the politics aligned with my own thinking!

I guess one minor thing about Catholic churches that I like now that that's where I am is that the Sunday sermon has to be tied to the readings for that Sunday, which are dictated by Rome, in some way.

@sabbatical I'm going to guess "most" is true, but I have a few clear memories of comments in past churches about things like how a good sermon is or should be the reason you pick a church… definitely was a turn-off!

@sabbatical I have heard "the kids these days" basically using it whenever it's a tray of bite-size food bits you might stab with a toothpick!

People seem to forget that "charcuterie" used to mean _just_ meats.

We should start using charFRUITerie to clarify.

@sabbatical Now that you mention it, totally!

I totally forgot about Anathem… loved that book back when it came out. You're right, a bit of the same thing going on

@sabbatical It might get me in hot water with some friends/family but I dare say it is!

@progo Indeed! I don't think I'd ever be interesting in going to one for the talks… they're just a method to get like-minded people together
