Remember when people thought the EU and the Eurozone was going to usher in the Antichrist™?

Has no one retrofitted a lava lamp to use a heating coil and LED lighting instead of an incandescent bulb yet?

Does the cost of insuring certain choices cause you to consider different options? For example, would finding out that car insurance is cheaper if you park the vehicle in a garage instead of the drive make you consider building a garage?

Canadian friends, if you haven't already written to your MP about Bill C-22, do it today! dontsurveil.me/c22.html

I love it when people whinge about people who vote for something they don't think should be voted for and have a reasonably good justification for it

It's kind of wild that we used to store important information on a magnetic strip that we just kept in a pocket

@sabbatical This whole process is definitely a downside of the self-hosted small federated instance model

@kcdills The funny thing is, my parents are still on the same ISP they were on when I got my first email address as a kid. Their second overall I think (and at the same location).

Wild how back in the day, when the average bloke used an ISP-provided email address, they'd have to get a new email address upon changing ISPs

Feeling old-sad and pre-emptively starting a note of anecdotes and memories about a family member who is notably starting their journey to the grave and it's not fun

@sabbatical Hmmmmm I think your theory sounds right!

Your user count point is a good one. That's making me reconsider things…

"netizen" is such a dumb word

"internetter" is better

@sabbatical 90% sure I'll switch to beige.party I think. The name is tipping the scales over other options I've looked at

I'm pro-homeschooling for all the reasons but I find it super weird when you ask someone what grade their kid is is and they respond with something like "we don't do grades"

Well then tell me what grade level they are doing schoolwork at. Or what grade you tell the authorities they are taking.

Or 12 - (number of years until being done). Because that's what I actually want to know half the time—the other half being how many years have they been a "school aged kid" for.

To be fair I've only heard this maybe twice in recent memory. It just sounds SO WEIRD when I hear it.
