@ed_hawkins I get the humour in writing all those decimals to mimic barcodes but not sure it is a good idea!

@Xxi Et au cas où ça ne serait pas totalement évident, je suis @8pi_g sur Twitter!

@Xxi Gnarf! Gnarf! Le simple fait qu'il ai fallu inventé l'expression Evidence Based Medecine en dit long, honnêtement. Imaginez Evidence Based Chemistry!!

@WardQNormal Unusual to compare truth to darkness. 🤔

@andrewdessler Fair enough. People like me (and you) who are conscious of the climate issue and also point out the difficulty do so in order to set priorities and delineate where our efforts should go, not to argue that it is impossible. The debate is then about what's the best path forwards, not about whether it is possible in the first place.

@andrewdessler Beyond those deniers, objectively, the move from CFC to HCFC and then to HFC can't even remotely be compared with the phasing out of coal, petrol, and gas.

@andrewdessler Note that your photo shows what I last saw my grandmother use in France! My parents had also this kind of resistor but they were encased in some ceramic to maximise the surface of contact with the pan. The main problem was not so much being slow to heat but on the contrary that the heat could not be stopped fast, because of the heat capacity of the ceramic casing. So for precision cooking, one had to use two slots, one on high and one on medium heat for example, and swap the pan between them. Annoying! But that kind of stove got displaced decades ago by vitroceramics, which itself got displaced by induction whose heat can be stopped nearly instantly.

@andrewdessler I particularly like the assessment of the ISS the author does in passing: «its only purpose being to teach its creators how to build future spacecraft like it. The ISS crew spend most of their time fixing the machinery that keeps them alive, and when they have a free moment for science, they tend to study the effect of space on themselves» The ISS should not be replaced!

@andrewdessler Replacing all ICE by EV will also take one or two decades I would argue. Car replacement cycle. Power grid strengthening. But agreed: we must concurrently do both. It is a matter of social equity too to give people who can’t do without a car a clean alternative with EV’s.

@andrewdessler Imho we also need to figure out how to make as many people as possible in no need of a car. Difficult to impossible in the US and not easy outside of densely populated areas in Europe but it would make the transition easier and smoother.

@mikew12 I extend to you an invitation to come to live in Western Europe. Not completely there yet but close. 😉

@timo21 @hausfath Modern Humans were already in Europe before the last glacial minimum you see on the right at -12000. So they could cope with -5°C below pre-industrial. But cope ≠ thrive. Humanity exploded starting around -6000 ish.

@hausfath After reading the paper, I have not understood why CPS is so different from the others. Could you enlighten me?

@hausfath Probably too high a bar on such a medium but could you give the gist of the machine learning performed here ?

@andrewdessler Imho he has already damaged Tesla with the lies about full autonomous driving, get-rich with robot taxis, and semi. Moreover shares have lost 1/2 their value this year: the bubble is deflating. Because of what you wrote in parts I guess.

@mohtashimnizamani A cliché I know but if someone had told me 20 years ago that I would witness that, I would have laughed at him!
