Between 1978 and 2022:

-Worker pay grew by 15%

-Top exec pay jumped by 1,209%

Major US CEOs are now paid 344 times more than their typical employees.

When I say corporate CEOs are exploiting labor, this is what I mean.

So I booked a flight for next week, the first time in quite a while

At first I was looking at United, but a lot of their planes were Max 8s or Max 9s, or just Boeing in general, and I was like ... do I realllllly want to roll those bones

Then realized Delta flew the same routes but with Airbuses

So: Delta

I wonder how many other people are making these sorts of calculations?

Not too many, I'd suspect, but not zero

Boeing's outgoing CEO could get "golden parachute" worth as much as $45 million.

The CEO before him got one worth $62 million on his way out the door in 2019.

America has socialism for the rich, harsh capitalism for everyone else.

Who is that?? How tall is she? Are those two twins?? I need to know these things!

Dear @espn Can you please put QR codes on either side of the score box that link to the team rosters during the NCAAW basketball tournament? It would save some time for folks like me who don’t watch many games in the regular season but who are glued to the screen in March.

@sommer asking the questions everyone else wants to, but are afraid to.

Being “unafraid to look ‘stupid’” is an under-estimated leadership skill.

Pretty sure at least 1/2 my job is being confused in shared spaces so that everyone says all the things and we all know more at the end somehow.

“No other branch of civil engineering tolerates this level of system failure. In any other field, if engineers knew that systems would fail catastrophically about 30 times this year and knew when, where, and why that was most likely to happen, they would be required to intervene or shut everything down. And if they didn't, there would be serious professional consequences: firing, fines, loss of license, and, depending on how egregious the infraction, criminal penalties” sf.streetsblog.org/2024/03/27/

Having been fortunate enough to experience in-person WWDC’s in a variety of formats, I’ll say that the current, one day version may actually be my favorite. It is a condensed, beautiful expression of being part of this developer community I cherish. And Apple Park itself is a really inspiring origin from which to embark on the long adventure of summer work adopting the new APIs.

If you can, I’d highly recommend putting your name in the lottery for a ticket: developer.apple.com/wwdc24/spe

Cori Bush is calling for a repeal of the Comstock Act, which is good and right, although Barney Frank tried to so do for years and years beforehand. But the Democratic leadership brushed it off. "It's a zombie law," they said, "Nobody enforces it." And here we are and Republicans are salivating to use it to ban abortion nationwide.

It's like a parable of our politics.

MAGAs are labeling DEI as "Didn't Earn It," which is wild because in reality, generating historic wealth through 2 billion acres of stolen land from Native Americans, enslaving Black people for 300 years, banning Asian immigration until 1965, & banning women from financial access til 1974 — all without paying a single red cent in reparations or restitution — is the living breathing example not earning it.

@_Davidsmith Is there a “count up” widget in Widgetsmith? I’ve looked and can’t find one, but maybe I’m not looking in the right place/under the right name or not realizing that I can customize an existing widget with a different name to do what I want. What I want is like a “number of days since the last workplace accident” sign that keeps counting up automatically until I say “whoops” and reset it to 0.

"Sometimes people use “respect” to mean “treating someone like a person” and sometimes they use “respect” to mean “treating someone like an authority”

and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say “if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you” and they mean “if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person”

and they think they’re being fair but they aren’t, and it’s not okay."

“There is no cavalry coming. No miracle solution. No saviors.

In the end, we, the American people - not any of our institutions - have to save our democracy by voting in defense of that democracy this fall.

We are the cavalry. The responsibility is ours.”
