@lupyuen - Thought-provoking article, but I wish people would do the distinction between BEV and FCEV.

Besides... Those green cars are traveling on very polluting ships. Maybe it would be a good thing to reconsider the amount of transports needed by planning the manufacturing infrastructure differently? Decentralizing, perhaps?

@vattuvarg @lupyuen not to mention that those electronic cars are also requiring extremely scarce materials and the batteries are also bad for the environment. Not to mention that if the electricity is produced with not environment friendly methods then you are still polluting. You can just feel good about yourself that you are driving an electric car

@Nika2022 - There is a genuine need for motorized transports so we need something to fulfill that need. ...and fossil fuels are simply not an option anymore.

But the transports that we need to replace might be shorter and less frequent than we think. Why not reconsider some historical choices while we're at it?

+ @lupyuen

@vattuvarg @lupyuen unpopular opinion would be an effective public transportation system. But as we know certain countries like America or Australia they are just not willing to invest into that and allow even the existing networks to rot and rust. Looking at your New York Subway

@vattuvarg @lupyuen here in Austria when you are buying a train ticket every time they are giving you the amount of CO2 you have spared because you did not use a fossil fuel car. Also affordable public transportation would not put people in disadvantaged if they lose their Mobility. In America if your car and is repoed and you live in a rural area you lose your access to a lot of services.

@Nika2022 - Well, most people still don't understand that the production numbers of BEV and FCEV will not meet demand during the rapid transition. So people will need to come up with alternatives to using their own car.

+ @lupyuen

@vattuvarg @lupyuen of course I would not expect that a person like Kim Kardashian would sit on a bus with us peasants but a lot of people would actually prefer to sit on a bus instead of sitting in a car clogged up in traffic. And let me also add that Keanu Reeves does use the subway so it's not even about wealth it's about mindset.

@Nika2022 - Pretty soon it will be a matter of pure necessity too.

+ @lupyuen

@vattuvarg @lupyuen be very honest with you a part of me would not one to see that happening; even though I know it's kind of inevitable at this point. I feel very bad for all those children who will inherit this pile of mess from us

@Nika2022 - I don't think you need to worry too much.

Our kids (I have two, btw) always have to take care of our messes but somehow they always manage to do it just as we did with our parents. Yes, the mess is worse than it has ever been (by far) but our children have never been smarter than now.

But I'm not waiting for them to adjust. I do it now.

+ @lupyuen

@vattuvarg @lupyuen then let's just say I feel low key ashamed that they have to clean up the poop after us.

@vattuvarg @lupyuen and trust me if I had all the answers to things I would probably be richer than the dude who wanted to buy the birdie site

@Nika2022 even with purely fossil-fueled electricity, we can count on the average driver to drive enough kilometers to make the switch to EV result in a net reduction in carbon emissions because of higher efficiency, although it hardly solves a crisis. On the other hand, I wonder why we rely so much on driving private vehicles

@vattuvarg
So... like, ships use using very polluting fuels, but I remember seeing, in, I think a wendover video, that, because those ships transport so much stuff in one go, when shipping food and stuff, the co2 from shipping ends up being negligible compared to last mile transportation. I don't know exactly how the math works out for cars, but I can't imagine it being very relevant compared to all of the battery component mining and stuff like that. So not sure if the shipping is the right place to focus our efforts. (Though their fuel is apparently one of the things that is relatively easy to replace)

@TT_392 - Even if the pollution is small per kilo transported it is still a lot of pollution. ...especially if the goods could be produced closer to the destination, thus making that transport unnecessary.

imho, we need to look at all aspects of our society to create a resilient future for us all, not just debate what we should focus on first.

@lupyuen

It's safe as long you keep out the oil industry saboteurs.

I just filled up my electric car... It cost me $1.67, that's $1.67 total cost of electicity to completely fill it up. :ablobblewobble:

@lupyuen @trinsec

I swear my typo in the word "electicity" above was unintentional. 🤔
