These days with the wide diversity of languages and hardware and rapidity of change and scarcity of talent, unless you're hiring for a one-off, you look for someone who can quickly *learn* what you need, not necessary someone who already knows it.
@lupyuen I can tell you as someone who does a lot of hiring, I would never hire an embedded programmer who didnt know assembly even if we didnt code primarily in assembly.

This is exciting! I can see myself buying something like this when it's ready for early adopters who can't write our own software for it. The proliferation of projects to develop OS and apps for novel devices like this, could contribute to the problem of keeping open source development sustainable, especially when it comes to maintenance. But it also offers a potential solution, if hardware vendors can use some of their revenue to fund dev jobs. As #Purism have done to some extent.
