UK – Three in 10 users of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, say they are considering leaving the site, according to research from Savanta.

Savanta found that Musk was also deemed personally unpopular with the UK public ...

Musk is currently less popular with the UK public than all Conservative leadership candidates except Priti Patel (-30 ).

Oh my word. FUCK YOU DISNEY

'The lawsuit claims that Dr. Kanokporn Tangsuan suffered a fatal allergic reaction after eating at a Disney Springs restaurant despite repeatedly informing the waiter of her severe allergy.

Disney is calling for the lawsuit to be dismissed because her husband signed up for a one-month trial of the Disney+ streaming service years prior.

The company says signing up for the trial requires users to arbitrate all disputes with the company.'

@axbom well, it does take a quick look at the book to see that you're interpreting the slogan not the way it was meant (and expanded) by the author

Signal is blocked in several countries but you can set up a proxy server to help people access Signal no matter where they live. Here’s how:

signal.org/blog/proxy-please

Thank you for helping keep Signal available for everyone who needs it.

To share your proxies use #SignalProxy

@bogo so that you could share the pain while travelling during the next mass internet outage

@NatureMC @mapto @pixelfed @jerry @vmstan @doug what’s technically possible is to ignore the existence of other objects claiming to be responding to yours. the entire issue is that people take such claims at face value instead of checking with you to see if you actually added the response to your collection

@trwnh, thanks for bothering to respond here. I've seen you do it at other places. I imagine this is a very tiring job, but I see it as very important.

When you say people, I guess you mean ActivityPub-enabled platforms. Users don't really get this level of direct control

@NatureMC @pixelfed @jerry @vmstan @doug

@JubalBarca I've had a similar experience and have found the conference much more welcoming. That is surely because I do computational stuff.

But I must say that working with eastern manuscripts is a niche to the ADHO crowd. I applied with work on one of the most important Cyrillic manuscripts in a year when there was supposedly focus on Southeast Europe, and the reviewers didn't even bother to update their reviews in the second round. Surely my experience is one off, but the quite good on paper process didn't seem to actually materialise in our case.

Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected online.

That's why we're introducing new comment controls to Pixelfed next month.

This new safety feature puts you in charge of your interactions, creating a safer and more welcoming space for everyone.

As a Blind person i never thought i would be on social media savoring photos. But the communal Mastodon alt text game is so strong that sweet, poetic or silly descriptions abound on my timeline. Thanks to legions of people who take time to write a meaningful description of the ephemera they post, i learn so much about insects, plants, buildings, memes — all dispatches from a dimension of the world that i otherwise wouldn't experience. If you're wondering whether anybody reads these things: YES.

@aaronm hi there, thanks for this continuous great work. Is there a way to browse the archive by language or by period?

E.g., I'm looking at digi.vatlib.it/mss/Vat.slav . Is there a way to see the metadata of these texts, like presumptive dates, titles, and whatever is known about origins? Does such information exist at all, if so, is it digitised?

Again, thanks a lot!

@fraying My grandma always told us that one of the first things she did after moving to Los Angeles from Alabama in 1936 was register to vote. She voted for FDR in the election that year. She couldn't do that in the South. She voted in EVERY LA election until her death in September 2008. Right before Obama got elected.

A post about how I got started in SciViz and DataViz

When I was much younger than I am today...

..I was so very young when AIDS hit San Francisco, and the Noe Valley neighborhood I lived in at the time.

I saw my neighbors and friends suffer, and die.

When I finally went away to college and learn about molecular biology, this included the molecular biology of HIV and many other diseases.

But I paid even more attention to HIV, because I saw what it did.

@mekkaokereke of argue that algorithms are useful to help people expand their network, as most people are not motivated to look for new connections. I'm observing several people around me and I see that only ones that want to expand stay on the fediverse. The others find it empty. This is not because there's no content. It's because no one reaches out.

No more weapons for Netanyahu’s war. The US must use every ounce of leverage, including withholding offensive military assistance, to finalize the ceasefire deal on the table and stop the killing. Tell your Members of Congress to call for offensive weapons to be withheld from the Israeli military, and to push for a desperately needed ceasefire. act.indivisible.org/letter/ema

@ohmu @moira apologies if this is perceived out of place.

I think what is missing, but needed here, is a reflection of which of the problems are Mastodon-related, and which are ActivityPub-related. In case the first, the problem is probably technical and rather solvable. In the latter, it's much more complicated, as for example reply-gating illustrates (see github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i).

Mekka is a very important voice here, because he has both the expertise and the resources to not only better identify problems, but also to shape solutions.
