Customer sent me a dead T500.
I checked, and saw a big drop on vint20 (main 20v dc rail).
Sure enough: burned (shorted) decoupling capacitors. Can happen sometimes, with ceramic caps. Very few fuses on T500's, so stuff just burns when there's a short.
*Six* decoupling caps, on this 20v dc rail, all 2.2uF. I removed 3, cleaned up the scorch mark and booted; the machine works.
The remaining caps still filter ripple noise effectively.
If you have a dead ThinkPad, don't chuck it. Send it to me!
