Green Days “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” redone in classical Classical Latin https://youtu.be/Mip30YF1iuo
The craziest part? Because Latin isn’t nearly as “influenced” by different roots of its era (unlike the English of today) the alliterations, tonal shifts etc. Can flow much more consistently through the melody! It’s fascinating to listen to

"An Elliptic Curve Primality Proving (ECPP) algorithm was used via a primality proving program, Primo 4.3.0 - LX64, to generate a primality certificate which deterministically verifies the primality of p. The certification process took 39 days and 8 hours to complete using an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X (16-Core, 32-Thread, 3.5GHz Base)."
> The astrophysicists, from the University of Cambridge, the University of Trento, and Harvard University, say that there is a clear, unambiguous signal in the cosmos that could eliminate inflation as a possibility.
> “Inflation was theorised to explain various fine-tuning challenges of the so-called hot Big Bang model,” ... “It also explains the origin of structure in our Universe as a result of quantum fluctuations.”
> However, the Big Bang theory does not allow for the existence of the CGB, as it suggests that the exponential inflation of the newborn universe diluted relics such as the CGB to a point that they are undetectable. This can be turned into a test: if the CGB [cosmic graviton background] were detected, clearly this would rule out cosmic inflation, which does not allow for its existence.

Nouriel Roubini says it’s ‘mission impossible’ to avoid a hard landing, and we’ll get the worst of the 1970s and 2000s combined

> Fed Chairman Jerome Powell still says it’s possible to cool the economy and keep employment stable—all without causing a severe downturn, in what would be a “soft landing.”
> But if history is any indication, a recession and an economic “hard landing” are all but guaranteed, says Nouriel Roubini, professor emeritus at New York University’s Stern School of Business and the CEO of Roubini Macro Associates. He earned the nickname “Dr. Doom” for his prophetic visions of looming economic downturns, including an accurate prediction of the 2008 housing crash and subsequent market crisis.
> With the U.S. annual inflation rate as high as it is—8.2% in October—only a deep recession and a steep spike in unemployment might be enough to fix it, Roubini warned in a recent interview with Fortune.

There’s a new book out today Tuesday on the history of Anchor Brewing, and I think it’s pretty swell! I wrote up a story about the release and the party for it tonight:

I don't have time to do it, but here is an appeal for #help from someone I know:
> #Help wanted: Code review for Mindfulness at the computer
Hi all, the design is now finally complete for the application Mindfulness at the computer which i have been working on as a hobby project for a long time. I’d like to do a #codereview and could use help from people experienced with one or both of the following:
- #Python (for #review of #backend or #frontend #code)
- #Qt, or #gui applications in general (for review of frontend code)
Are you willing to help out, or do you know of any programmers who could be interested?

Here is an #introduction post!
Hello, I'm Vivian, an editor at Little, Brown. I'm obviously interested in all things #publishing and #writing, with a focus on building community, especially with #writersofcolor!
I'm also interested and tweet about #music, #NewYork, dumb jokes etc etc.
You can also find me on IG: @vleebooks and on Twitter @vivianwmlee.
👋🏻 Hi, my name is D'yani! (cisfem, she/her) #introduction time!
I'm a thoughtful #creative #introvert #leftist who is very into #empathy #communication #mentalhealth #acceptance and real #friendship.
I'm afraid I suck at making friends? Despite unshakable deep loneliness. So pls if you think we could be friends, throw me a lifeline 😊

Dear #newcomers :
Please do not follow without, at least, an #introduction post, some #tags denouncing your #interests , and a few #posts .
I've wrote a small script to open/close registrations on #Mastodon servers based on user count so that smaller servers can better cope with the current load.
You can find that script on @Codeberg :
https://codeberg.org/Windfluechter/check_mastodon.sh
You'll need to make some changes to the script (editing the limits) and most likely also want to use https://codeberg.org/Windfluechter/cleanup-mastodon-users.sh to automatically remove inactive accounts on your site to reduce the user count again
Ever heard the term "galactic archaeology"? It refers to astronomers using stars as fossils to understand the history of the Milky Way and some nearby galaxies.
My colleague Rebecca Forsberg, one our science communication interns at ESO, is working on this topic for her PhD, and she just wrote this lovely piece about how ESO's Very Large Telescope and ESA's Gaia mission joined forces to unveil the secrets of our home galaxy:
