Mystery, Awe and Wonder
"Both [religion and science] recognize that the world is filled with mysteries, mysteries that we might untangle if we explore carefully and creatively, and both recognize that we might be appropriately awed as we make our discoveries."
Clergy members and their congregations are exploring this exciting relationship on Religion and Science Weekend (10-12 February) as they push back on the anti-science movement.
"Both religion and science entail a journey — a journey joyfully taken by the congregations who have opted to participate."

CLERGY PROMOTING SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENTALISM
Yes, you read that correctly! A forward-looking group of clergy members are pushing back against the anti-science movement that has been gathering steam. They believe science can help us in our fight against Covid, climate change, racism, homophobia, transphobia and much more. They also believe that their perspective on religion is dramatically different from the extreme fundamentalism that is being used to tar all religions.
They’ve designated the weekend of 10-12 February 2023 as Religion and Science Weekend and will promote the compatibility of religion and science working to create a healthier, greener and more equitable environment for all.
Read about their efforts in this short essay explaining more about their good efforts:
My new essay invites people to join clergy on a journey to discover the mystery, awe and wonder inherent in religion & science. Together we can alter the growing anti-science bias and negativity being expressed toward religion & build a better world.

Science and Religion Working Together to Create a Better World
It's Giving Tuesday and The Clergy Letter Project IS NOT asking for any money! Instead, we’re simply asking for your help reaching more people to educate them about our movement – demonstrating that religion and science need not be in conflict.
Thousands of clergy members from a wide array of religions have come together to promote the teaching of evolution, to demand that action be taken to combat climate change, and to demonstrate that we are one species with all individuals being worthy of respect.
Please check out our web site – www.theclergyletterproject.org – and share information about our efforts with others. Encourage clergy to sign our Climate Crisis Letter (www.theclergyletterproject.org/Climate_Letter/ClimateLtr.html). Drop me a note (mz@theclergyletterproject.org) to sign up for our free monthly newsletter.
So, on this Giving Tuesday, donate to your favorite cause – but NOT to The Clergy Letter Project. We want your emotional and vocal support rather than your monetary support! Together we can make a difference.
At a time when science is under attack and religion seems to be represented by extreme fundamentalists, it's worth noting that there are thousands upon thousands of clergy members who promote science, care about climate change, work toward equality of all people, and so much more. These are the men and women of The Clergy Letter Project (www.theclergyletterproject.org). Join us in making a safer, fairer and greener world. Spread the word, change the world.
We, #trans people, youth and adults, just wanna live. Oh, and thrive.
That's all.
We want human rights.
We want health care, decided by our doctors, not politicians.
We wanna pee, in peace.
It's simple.
If you find any of it problematic, you're the problem.

An introductory note: I'm the executive director of The Clergy Letter Project (www.theclergyletterproject.org), a grassroots organization promoting the compatibility of religion and science (at least most religion). We sponsor open letters from religious leaders urging the teaching of evolution. We run an annual Evolution Weekend (renamed Religion and Science Weekend in 2023) in which congregations promote science. And we created the Climate Crisis Letter (http://www.theclergyletterproject.org/Climate_Letter/ClimateLtr.html), signed by over 1050 clergy members from 15 countries, which calls for immediate action to combat climate change.
If this interests you, contact me, I'd love to meet you.
