Oh mighty Shai-hulud
Keeper of balance

Bless the Maker and His water
Bless the coming and going of Him
May His passage cleanse the world...

This is a photograph of Earth and the Moon taken from 1.44 billion km away, on July 19 2013.

Everyone you've ever known is living out their life here, on this little blue jewel, glittering faintly in the sunlight.

This tiny, delicate planet is all we have in the vastness of the Universe. Every living thing on it is part of our extended family.

All of us together, against a backdrop of unending darkness.

@wilw the things you didn't like were just happy little accidents... :)

I just wanted to take a moment and thank those of you who reached out with #painting advice and suggestions. Your kindness was awesome, and you were genuinely helpful.

I'm still climbing the learning curve, but I did my 4th #BobRoss painting today, and I like more about it than I don't like.

@snailix@scicomm.xyz "eat your greens", mama slug told her kids....

@echoz no time like the present (schedule allowing ofc)! I took a long hiatus and getting back to the grind is both demoralising and eye-opening. Haha

@echoz I've always squatted barefoot but there was once I forgot my gym shoes and had to squat with "dress" shoes - the solid wood/leather sole with slight raised heel felt great and had me considering a pair of lifting shoes!

The black one is Charlie, my grandma's dog. The chihuahua is named Molly. She's a horrid little goblin, but I love her. The golden retriever was called Tybee. She's gone now, but she was very chill and sweet. #mastodogs

@echoz Never skip legs day! Yeah I love squatting heavy but it's been putting too much stress on my lower back. Trying my hand at GVT now - lower weights+high reps hopefully to grease the skids and practice more technique. (E.g. discovered that I'm a close-stance squatter.)

From my photo archives:

Little India, Singapore. Tucked in the labyrinthine alleyways, you have find some brothels.

@echoz 💪 more of a function training for you I suppose? I forgot it was a holiday today, and am an hour too early for the gym. Haha. Well at least I'll get choice pickings of the squat racks today..

@wilw oh man. I got bitten by the Bob Ross bug hard a couple of months back and in typical me fashion, bought a slew of paints and brushes and canvases... Basically everything short of looking for an agent. Hahaha. Did 3 oil paintings that could be showcased in the Local Myopia Museum of Disillusionment, and that's it for my journey for now.

Is anyone else here learning how to paint with #BobRoss? I've watched about 50 Joy of Paintings, and I've done three (bad) paintings of my own.

I'm slowly getting better at some things, but I'm still mostly incompetent, and I'm wondering if anyone else is learning, and has experiences or tips to share that have helped your learning curve?

I am a mathematician and cognitive scientist by training and troublemaker by inclination. I have been following the mastodon universe from the sidelines for a while now but a recent article made me create an account at one mastodon site which led to the next one and the next one and since then I have been following a trail of interesting sites and people.

As a complete n00b here, I am at your mercy. Tell me what I should know and who I should follow!

Hitting the gym early a.m. today. Anyone else here into weightlifting?
