@sapphire it's a minor tweak of a military design, if anything it was made to sell surplus military parts. Rifles designed specifically for sharpshooting competition look much cooler than that. I can invent a sport where you have to hit a target with an artillery, doesn't mean modern artillery is designed for sport.
@namark @sapphire @trinsec @freemo You touch on an interesting point here, namely that carbines in modern doctrine aren't used for killing, they're suppressing fire and CQB weapons that pin enemies for artillery and aircraft. Hence why civies can't have those, that's where the actual killing power is.

I think on review something like 70-75% of combat casualties in one battle were from various explosives, with mortars leading the killing.
It is not an overstatement to say the M4 carbine is a mortar support platform moreso than it is a standalone weapon.

Removing the **sole** quality that makes it suitable for military use is not a "minor tweak"
Apparently you werent listening (or choose not to). The M-16 was designed to have low power/momentum specifically so on automatic fire a person can use it without falling on their ass or having their aim wildly thrown off by the recoil.
One you remove the automatic fire capability it has no relevance or use as a military weapon of anykind.
This is not a "minor tweak" it completely changes the utility of the weapon.
