Im rewatching harry potter and the half prince... I realized that Severus originally was a death eater, then became a double agent for albus during the first wizarding war, then when Voldemort returned he convinced them he was a triple agent and was actually always working for Voldemort... but in fact he was a quadruple agent and was, in fact working for the order of the phoenix all along.

I love harry potter and all but man JK Rowling was not the best at realism :)

@freemo I think it was meant to be taken as he really did side with the death eaters, but gave it up at great risk for love.

@obi Well yes, originally in the first wizarding world whenn he first joined the death eaters it was sincere... but then (for love) he became a double agent... then he became a triple agent... and thenn we learn he was really a quadruple agent all along :)

@freemo I guess I see it as he is a death eater, even when being a double and quadruple agent, and his love for Lilly was so strong that he betrayed his kind. Interesting to think about his motivations though, if there was more.

@freemo On a side note. Have you checked your servers performance in the past half hour. Seeing noticeable delays even in typing. New wave the cause?

@obi there seems to be some backlogging going on. Let me keep an eye on it and see if it resolves. It usually does and happens when a long standing account deletes itself, which may be the case here.

@freemo Ahhhhh. Never even thought of that causing an issue. My first thoughts went to wave of new users, or heavy uploading of media.

@obi The backlog just resolved itself nnow.. it doesnt last long when it happens.

@freemo Still really bad for me. In this vid, I'm constantly typing, then holding the backspace. Maybe it's just me, but my other instances are working fine obi11.mooo.com/s/ML4j3ksy8zkPe

@obi Typing should be affected only by thing happening on your machine. This might very well include your (web?) client being busy, but the server being busy should not cause that effect (other than maybe when you're typing a mention). @freemo

@robryk

This part is true.. but there was a backlog for a few seconds there.

@obi

@robryk Strange. 5 tabs open, 3 Mastodon, 1 Tweetdeck, and email, a few other apps open, nothing else was doing the slowed typing, just assumed it had to be this instance. I've never seen it before, strange. @freemo

@obi Was any of your mastodon tabs backlogged (i.e. had lots of posts that weren't displayed yet and was presenting a "NNN new items" entry at the very top)? @freemo

@robryk Nope, all running free. Was at the top of all columns. I'd freak out if I wasn't. If I scroll down, I click the top tab to get back to the top. All the column were moving, in all instances, only the input box for toots was slow @freemo

@obi

Cant think of any other reason that would happen that I've heard of happening before then...

@robryk

@freemo Thanks, will do. I was trying to add my 3 fav instances, this being my fav, to the Sengi App but it didn't work. Get 504 app for qoto, but not the others. Figured you didn't allow api access, but that idea was squashed when i just added qoto to Tusky. Oh well, who knows, probably a Sengi issue. @robryk

@obi

So QOTO is a custom fork of mastodon, we speak the same protocol called ActivityPub and we are very similar to mastodon (being a fork of it). Point is we use the ActivityPub standard in a more "complete" way, as in, we use more features of it than vanilla mastodon. For example we have a different max post size.

Anyway, if a client is written to work with the API correctly, then they work with us just fine. But instead if they assume we are the same as vanilla mastodon (and just assumes some things) then it will break on us and not others.

So long story short, if the app is written correctly for ActivityPub then it works with us just the same as plain mastodon.

@robryk

@freemo I didn't realize you were a fork. I guess that makes sense, and is why I love this instance, with soooooooooo many additional features. Thanks for the explanation. Does anyone else run off your code, to take advantage of the extra features? @robryk

@obi

I have heard of a handful of instances running off our code, yes. I cant recall what those are off the top of my head or if they are even still around.

A few instances have copies our about/more page with our rules too.

@robryk

@freemo Where do you keep the code and do you keep the configuration in a public place too? (I want to try figuring out what sends those duplicated Access-Control-Allow-Origin headers that mess up remote following sometimes) @obi

@obi

There is one thing that happens.. if you scroll down and leave it there for a long time, the content can fill up so much that you run out of memory and things slow... you have to bring the scroll bar to the top and then all the old posts can roll off and memory will get freed.
