In mystery movies, characters are always gushing, "You're the greatest detective in the world!"
How do detectives get famous? Can anyone name the greatest real-life detective in the world right now? Or, like, any detective?
Sherlock Holmes?
Dick Tracy?
@lucifargundam @htdrake @trinsec Those are both fictional (and also very old).
@peterdrake
We had a Peter R. de Vries who was pretty famous in my country for solving cold cases.
He got liquidated last year because he was a bit too hot on the trail of some high profile criminals.
@trinsec Interesting! Solving your crimes on TV is probably a key move if you want to be a famous detective.
Weirdly, the person you descrive has almost exactly the same name as a character from Dune:
@peterdrake Getting on TV is probably mandatory to becoming well known, yeah. ;)
And no, that name Piter De Vries is off... especially the capitalization. Ever notice how we never capitalize our little words after our name or initials?
Peter de Vries.
Mister De Vries.
Mister P. de Vries.
It's a very Dutch thing. We'll easily spot when a De Vries is Americanized. Or Dune-ized, I suppose.
@htdrake: That was an astute observation.
Me: *gasp* Does that make ME the greatest detective in the world?
