@brainwane I will also note I see a huge correlation between kindness and happiness. Could easily be that happy and secure people feel they have a lot of slack to be kind as well, but when my instinct is to not be kind or forgiving or accepting and I am able to overcome it or actually genuinely feels really good.
@brainwane I think it is true though that people overestimate some of these things, so on average this advice is moving people in the right direction.
My 7 year old is a great kid but he hates getting in any kind of trouble so he often tries to avoid blame. I had to explain to him that yeah it sucks taking the blame for stuff but counter intuitively people really appreciate when you are quick to accept blame and own up to your mistakes.
@kittylyst @epilepticrabbit My job in the US as a teenager was pretty much exclusively gathering up the carts at a Wal Mart. I think I would have liked it a LOT less if I were spending my shifts inside doing something else.
I still will go out of my way to return my cart to the right place, though (except in rare circumstances where I am alone with my kids and it would be a huge pain to leave them alone to drop it off but also a huge pain to get them out to take them with me).
In any case as long as the carts aren't blocking parking spots or sidewalks and they aren't in particular danger of blowing around dangerously in the wind I don't really judge other people for their cart behavior.
@feoh I guess I'll have to just imagine the unlikely scenario in which most of the people in the Spanish-speaking track of the English-language conference can empathize with feeling self conscious about your grammar and accent in a language that isn't your native language 😉
I am of two minds about giving a talk in Spanish, to be honest.
On the one hand it is a personal goal to be good enough in a foreign language to give a useful or interesting talk.
On the other hand, if I ever hear the recording I might die of embarrassment when I hear myself speaking Spanish, so....
Two of my three proposals are for the Spanish language Charlas track. I have heard that they would very much appreciate more proposals, even from non-native speakers.
Finally finished my last #PyConUS talk proposal. Here's hoping that everyone else's talks are better than mine and I don't have to actually prepare a talk 😉
The best part about new ski boots is that if I wear them long enough I can be married off to a high ranking court mandarin.
Some people vocally oppose using ‘data’ and ‘panini’ as singular nouns, saying these words are plural because they come from Latin and Italian plural nouns.
That’s true, but that also goes for the ancestors of ‘marvel’ and ‘joy’: they used to be plural too – but that’s so long ago that nobody bats an eyelid anymore.
‘Peas’ and ‘skates’, on the other hand, used to be singulars, but nowadays we only know them as plurals.

@kevin Disappointed in the sense that you would not have started if you knew it would end that way or just in the sense that you wanted more seasons?
Anyone have a recommendation for where I can get a whole bunch of one-off stickers? Places like stickermule seem reasonably cheap buying in bulk but I want 15-20 custom stickers, which ends up well into the triple figures from what I can tell.
I think @ambv had a hack several years ago where he just used a regular printer with some kind of sticker paper?
New framework model ships "December". I do not want to go a whole month without a computer... Hopefully I can maybe get my ThinkPad working, but the "charging" light doesn't even turn on when I plug it in, which I think is a very bad sign.
@webology Hah, yeah I need a laptop, I already have a pile of desktops.
@graves501 Sorry I forgot to respond to this.
The biggest degradations have been the unread count capping out at 99 and subfolders collapsed by default: https://github.com/thunderbird/thunderbird-android/issues/9882
I am going to try fairmail, I heard it handles replying from catch alls, which never was in K9 but was a huge missing feature for me.
