@RustyStriker I'm inclined towards things where I can do it some kind of programming, honestly, though as the kids get old enough to do their own builds they will probably want a GUI interface...
@matths Looks like that one is all sold out. Do you know if any of the other Anycubic printers are good?
Do any of them do multiple colors?
Also in the market for 3D modelling programs, preferably FOSS, but definitely need to be Linux-compatible.
I was very good at AutoCAD and SolidWorks back in the day, but I've found FreeCAD very difficult to use for some reason.
Anyone have good #3dprinter recommendations? I'm not looking to spend too much on it. I suspect I won't use it very much, and I'll mostly use it for fabricating little disposable toys for my kids, and parts for small "maker" projects.
Has to work well with linux as I don't have any other kind of computer.

Not quite as good as the mercurial version, and you have to remember to autosquash, but still very useful.
Earlier this year, I became aware of STANDARD EBOOKS, a donation-dependent group of edtiors and layout experts who have been doing the amazing work of taking out-of-copyright books, turning them into top-quality ebooks, and then releasing them for free.
Some of the books they've done are in the Internet Archive here:

They're seeking 75 patrons in December to keep themselves afloat, consider donating to this amazing cause.

@glyph Can your little one read? I was thinking that I'd get my kids phones as soon as they can actually use them for texting and when they can read stuff like contact names, etc.
Of course, as a free range style parent, it was basically never in doubt that I'd be giving my kids phones young, since I want them to be independent and the cell phone is probably the most powerful tool for providing autonomy and safety (to anyone) that exists in the modern world.
@glyph Did you really receive opprobrium from like... people in person? Or is that exaggeration? Who was this from?
I can't imagine anyone that I would voluntarily spend time with providing anything I would describe as "opprobrium" over a parenting decision like this, but maybe I'm a bit naïve, or imagining a different kind of interaction.

rc2 had some bugs that are now fixed https://tox.wiki/en/latest/changelog.html#v4-0-0rc3-2022-12-05; rc3 will become the stable release soon unless you report further bugs; this is your final call to arms!
If you're writing a tutorial on managing Python dependencies for an application, be sure to add this line: "As soon as you pin one dependency, you must pin the entire dependency tree." So many people pin their direct dependencies, and then get confused why things are incompatible a few years later. #Python
On further consideration, I can imagine wanting to post generated answers in the likely event that the original service goes down, or as a cache, but that seems like it should be a very clearly different thing than a person writing an answer, marked as such, etc.
Submitted a discussion group proposal for #NERDsummit 2023. New England tech folks, come join me!
I guess I understand why they want to be cautious about not making policies in a knee-jerk fashion, but I feel like "temporary" should be unnecessary here: https://meta.stackoverflow.com/q/421831/467366
Posting GPT answers on StackOverflow is like checking in generated code or something. If someone wanted a GPT answer they could ask GPT, no?
