@pganssle I forwarded a link to your talk to the other authors of Python in a Nutshell, got this feedback from @holdenweb on your talk: "A great presentation. I remember running into many of these issues when our software had to track international athletes across time zones and still provide meaningful statistics. Thanks for the link!"
Ahhhh, now to relax and enjoy #pycon
I’ll be giving a talk on time zones at #PyConUS tomorrow (April 21st) at 14:30 MDT. If that sounds interesting to you, please join me in 355DEF or online!
The slides are here: https://pganssle-talks.github.io/pycon-us-2023-timezones
Exciting news from #PyPI, just in time for @PyConUS:
"Starting today, PyPI package maintainers can adopt a new, more secure publishing method that does not require long-lived passwords or API tokens to be shared with external systems."
I've been part of the private beta and it works really well!

I gather that the culture at Bloomberg changed a lot with respect to open source and other third party products not that long before I joined in 2015. I would be very interested to hear a history (formal or informal) of what motivated the change and how it was accomplished. I suspect @kevin would be a good source for an oral history…
OoOo, an announcement! Bloomberg is going to be sponsoring a Deputy Developer in Residence!
Bloomberg has a great approach to open source, and a lot of companies would do well to emulate them.
Many people probably write off sponsored talks as glorified ads, but I suspect this talk about Open Source at Bloomberg is going to be quite good: https://us.pycon.org/2023/schedule/presentation/132/

It occurred to me that my e-mail address might not be easily available, so I’ve added it to my website: https://ganssle.io/contact/
If you haven’t already left for #PyCon, might I suggest bringing some heavy duty hand lotion?
After 10 minutes here I felt like I should change into a stillsuit and start walking without rhythm to avoid attracting sandworms.
Next Thursday April 27th, the #Philly #Python Users Group is having two presentations, including yours truly and @easyaspython - we hope you can make it! https://www.meetup.com/phillypug/events/292954301/
