@angusm
How long before they all converge on a single "Harris is X" narrative, which they'll then beat on to the exclusion of all else for the next 3 1/2months?
@alexandrageese It's worth remembering just how much open source software, and all the vital infrastructure which uses it, depends on a cadre of greying volunteer developers, who often receive little or no financial support.
Yes, governments and business should continue to embrace FOSS. They should also contribute money and skilled workers to it.
Yes, you can. Adversely affecting the experience of others in a public place is something you're perfectly entitled to complain about.
@beebrookshire Oh, I'm gonna go with the former there.

I'm particularly impressed with brilliant comments to the effect that the FBI shouldn't have "ignored the warning signs" about this kid. So now they think the federal government is, and should be, closely monitoring each of America's children in detail?
These people need to decide which side of their nutty Deep State narrative they're on.
I'm a particular admirer of the "no one cares" reply. It's a very special blend of specious authority with clear-and-present counterexample.

@davidbrin It was bad enough when Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean busted Arecibo.
@davesdogmaggie @w7voa IK,R? Novelists like Ken Follett are looking at this and going "I gotta raise my game."
@EugeneMcParland Xi's strategy isn't very complicated. He's playing Putin, by superficially and temporarily strengthening Russia militarily, in order to help Putin weaken Russia overall, militarily, economically, and perhaps of most immediate importnce, in terms of its prestige, credibility and standing with central Asian countries.
All this creates a power vacuum of exactly the type Xi wants.
Giving or selling Putin weapons he can't make himself at this time is just win-win for Xi. And he gets cheap energy into the bargain.
That's remarkable. I only wish it were more surprising. I wonder what other subject attributes they recorded. I'd be curious for example if there was a distinct difference in encroachment rates based on how the rider was dressed. A lot of aggressive drivers seem particularly hostile towards people in form-fitting enthusiast riding clothes, vs work clothes or street clothes.
