@BashStKid I really liked Primer. But you can't really watch it with someone who's not nerdy enough to unravel it, and I wouldn't give it a general recommendation for similar reasons.

Just watched the 2013 film "Coherence". Easily one of the best "soft" #SciFi screen works I've ever seen; like a long-form, really superior episode of The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits or Black Mirror.

Also, very impressive use of no budget whatsoever. Somehow it ends up being a strength of the film.

DON'T read any reviews, and don't worry if your early reaction is to not like many of the characters. Liking them isn't the point.

Wikipedia's figures suggest that Mexico has around 100km more Gulf coastline than the US does. But I suspect that depends on how fractal you want to get around Louisiana; measuring coastline is tricky that way.
