Hah. Reading about Kimmel's negotiations with Disney and calls for the latter to uphold foundational American principles, which it has often -- though far from consistently -- represented.
And suddenly realized that the music i was hearing was a "Quand on prie la bonne étoile", AKA "When you wish upon a star", Christiane Legrand & Jean Lussac's version of the Disney Pinocchio theme. (I've got one of Radio France's streams playing.)
@bruces I had that very paperback and everything.
Aside: sitting in an fairly crowded airport departure lounge a few weeks ago, everyone looking at phones except one young woman directly opposite me reading a paperback of Niven's "All The Myriad Ways", in the exact edition I'd had as a kid in the 1970s. I found it weirdly encouraging.
I guess maybe Russia accidentally jammed GLONASS instead
@bruces
Wait, can you go Mechanist when you're already mechanical?
@rubenbolling
Trump's reasons for dreading the words "Dutch comedian" differs from the normal one
Maybe they jammed GLONASS by mistake
Sounds like they just want to solve that whole "having diverse parts" problem.
@molly0xfff
Some posts just quietly whisper "you really don't want to read the replies on this one." So I won't.
@fulelo if the images projected on Windsor Castle in themselves constitute malicious communication, surely the news reports reproducing them must also be malicious communication.
@fulelo
What they did doesn't meet the legal definition of what they're charged with. Not even close.
@sundogplanets If the meetings run past sunset, I know how for the bargain one-time price of $50,000 you could get another 0.4 seconds of daylight in which to wrap things up.
ISTR whenever you talk about reducing carbon emissions the usual suspects would yell "what about China??? No point if China's not doing it!!!"
China now leads the world in solar power development... and yet here we are.
@bruces
I live 8 blocks from a genuine weirdo hardware store. This looks like a Home Depot or something
@mathaetaes @w7voa
Clearly Taylor Swift is implicated here
"Your intellectually insulting aspect reminds me of you as the Marie Antoinette of theoretical physics influencers.”
This is not a sentence a mentally sound person speaks. This is lately-I've-started-collecting-my-toenail- clippings-in-mason-jars stuff.
Having had three cups of strong coffee in as many hours, try soldering 36 x 0.1" pitch pins on a board that has an unprotected LCD display surface-mounted perhaps 5mm away, using the sort of blunt-tipped soldering iron better suited to, say, repairing a watering can.
Amazingly I got away with it, but it's not the neatest job i've ever done.
I really do need to find these people who'll throw billions at a project that won't work. I've got lots of ideas.
Brilliant. (Debian here, on the rare occasion i install something for predominantly desktop use. The rest of the time it's Devuan if I need to run some kind of big complicated service application with lots of dependencies; Void Linux for straightforward servers running well-known services, daemons, CLI apps etc; and Alpine for appliances.)
As an aside, a remarkable weakness in all the browsers I just tried: no context menu option to copy Alt text!
