I have this recurring daydream about the US offering Florida as an independent nation to the Jewish diaspora in 1947. Imagine that. The world's strongest contributors to human civilization on this continent, instead of the stupidest, fattest Americans. Talk about win-win.

When you get right down to it, what base *isn't* base 10?

Just a thought: what if we stopped measuring the economy by the state of the stock market and started measuring it based on how many people are housed and clothed and fed?

OTOH for the most part I've been so busy that I haven't even thought about this until now.

Y'know what makes me feel old? A metric shedload of my best -- or at least prettiest and most remunerative -- work is in the form of Flash applications and animations. Nobody even has the flash plug-in anymore.

February 16 is #WorldPangolinDay to draw attention to the plight of the world’s most trafficked animals, these magnificent scaly mammals. There 8 species of #pangolin in Africa & Asia, all endangered, threatened by poachers for their meat & scales (used in traditional medicines) & by habitat loss & deforestation. This is the largest: the ground pangolin. I made him patterned & colourful to draw attention to him & his kin.

Y'know what would be really nice? If those websites which give you a popup the moment you land on their page, got a report on how many users immediately closed the tab rather than interact with the popup. Especially if that number was a high percentage of all visitors. I'm doing my part.

It's something that's really held me back in life: whenever I'm captured and tied up by villains, I keep waiting for my signature incidental escape music* to start before I make my break.

*No, I don't know what it is, that's the point: I've never heard it. But I'm sure I'd know it if I did.

One thing I've often wondered: why did James West always wait until the "James West escaping from captivity" incidental music started before he'd release his switchblade boot knife, gymnastically cut his ropes and escape? Was it so that the music would mask the noise?

This weekend I managed to corner and harmlessly trap a mouse that had been visiting our kitchen for a few weeks. Evidently living in the space between the floor and basement ceiling. Really rather an adorable little thing. I took it well away from the house and released it.

Thing is, I've repeatedly found myself hoping it's okay. I need to read up on the most benign way and place to release a mouse for when this happens agaain.

... I just noticed the other evening when I had occasion to review doorbell camera videos, that there are a lot of shots of me getting out of the car with my mask on. Apparently i forget that I have it on even more than I realize. it's just amazing that that upsets some people.

I still think it's amazingly clever the way NATO somehow managed to attack Russia *in Ukraine*, and to do it without ever sending a single soldier. But that's what happened. Just ask Putin.
