@sda "may be because we're not even really trying" - good point. I agree. Perhaps my question should've been "why are we not trying to make new friends as we get older?". And i can see you've answered that as well 🙂 👍
@raining_night
When we're younger everything is shiny and new, and we have to try stuff out. Other kids our age are also trying stuff out, so we strike up relationships with them.
As we get older, (as in older than 30's) we become much less interested in trying out new things, so meet fewer people.
e.g. Wife knows someone at work whose husband plays at an open mic almost every wed. night. "You and your husband should come. He can bring his guitar and participate too." We did, and I did. I had a good time, went back several times. Cataracts make driving at night difficult, so as winter came on, and it got darker earlier and earlier, and the temperatures got colder and colder, I found it harder to work up the ambition to go out.
The applause is nice, but sharing the embodiment of the song is primary. Making new friends isn't even a part of the reason I'm there. Sure, I make conversation here and there, but not with any intent to form new relationships. If that's also true for most others there, it's little wonder new friendships don't get formed.
"It's difficult to make friends..."
Maybe because we're not even really trying? Maybe friendships are "worth it" when we're younger, but as we get older, they seem more trouble than they're worth?

Ever trying cycling? any bike, just riding if you have a safe place to do it.
Great exercise, relaxing. My favourite.
@design_RG
"Safe place" is the keyword here. I would love to go cycling to work everyday, but that's not an option where i live. I live in Bangalore which doesn't have cycling-friendly roads. Traffic and pollution is too much here.
@_lunawinters
That's my experience too. People get busier, you meet them in work situations only, it's acquaintances mostly, and even those we lose as we move on, change places or jobs, etc.
@iamvikas Thanks. Happy to have you as my friend 😊
but i was talking about "real life friends" in my toot.
@Vishsai my take: we have trust issues when we get older, and we don't open up to people. This is not the case in our childhood and teen years.
@raining_night age just a number, you can still try
@raining_night I get you brother. Think as we grow older we more selective on what bullshit we can and can't handle. Though if there is something else am all ears.
@_lunawinters i had this once in Bangalore. It was very hard to chew. I had 2 pieces and thought 'i am never eating this again'. No offense..
@raining_night relatable af🖐️
The only sport i used to play is tennis(i started playing this year only, for 2 months). Towards the end of September this year, i had to take a break from tennis. Now I'm unable to restart the routine of waking up at 6.00 am in the morning, and go to play tennis. Every week I plan to start, i find some excuse(I'm a lazy bastard 😡) I'm planning to start again from the coming Tuesday. Let's see how it goes.
@stux
did you include the cost of the man-hours you spend, in this calculation?
@tariquesani
Little FYI;
I am NOT earning ANYTHING from mstdn.social 😉 In fact it's the opposite, Every week I work about 40-50 hours for a company so I can earn money and pay for the servers, domain, media storage and email services and don't get me wrong. I'm VERY happy to do that ❤️ and I will NOT stop doing that for a long time!
We do get donations and that's a BIG help! But still I need to pay much from my own pocket so keep that in mind. We are not a company, we are not Twitter, we drive on #love! ❤️
A British Ad which very well defines what is happening in India.
I love women, food, thriller/sci-fi/slasher movies and series, astro physics, superbikes, tennis, MMA, nature and animals❤️ not in any specific order
Trying out Veganism.
