One thing disappointing about the #Fediverse is that there are very few instances that don't ban "hate speech". The #Fediverse is often painted as a decentralized free-speech utopia, yet most instances ban hate speech.
The #Fediverse frankly is better suited for developing safe spaces than true free speech online, where you can say anything you want, and anybody can read what you say.
@design_RG Oh yes, quite true! Rules against harassment are necessary.
Perhaps it is unreasonable to expect everyone to want to engage with people from all viewpoints.
@realcaseyrollins Most of the time people come looking for a social experience, discovering new things, learning and having a nice time in their limited spare time.
So avoiding unwanted content or conflict is important to most people, I think. For a long time I avoided Twitter for this and other reasons (their brain dead 140 characters limit was also so stupid as to defy my comprehension, to be perfectly honest)
