I normally don’t like posting #Twitter screenshots but this is just gold

Covid and Brain Damage

@White_Bite Very interesting, thanks for sharing that!

Covid and Brain Damage

And memory loss (nagiging malilimutin ka). What's worrying is that this is the same problem encountered by those suffering from neurodegenerative diseases like #Alzheimer's and #dementia. So, surprise! It's not psychological and it hell ain't anxiety or stress. #BrainFog Is an understatement. It's brain damage. Bonus: it happens even when your initial symptoms are mild.

Their activation leads to loss of oligodendrocytes (nerve cells in the brain) as well as myelin sheaths -- the lining of The nerves which help transmit electrical impulses through the nerves so these can send signals to your brain. (Parang wire ng kuryente na nabalatan Kaya may ground). This leads to cognitive dysfunction (you become dumb. Nagiging mas tanga ka kasi di ka makaisip ng derecho)

Anxiety? Let's break down this study in simple terms to show how #Covid damages the brain. Without being anxious and stressed, the virus that enters through your nose goes through the blood (sa dugo) and the cerebrospinal fluid --that fluid found in Your backbone. This triggers the release of molecules that causes inflammation(pamamaga). The immune cells in the brain (microglia) are then activated.

Hmm, curious. The list for aus.social still only has the one toot, even though it's a busy instance and there have been many toots since I subscribed to the domain.
*BUT* I just saw there's a "Favourite domains" feature, which puts a link on my sidebar and that loads all the aus.social toots instantly. So... going with that!
Success!

@trinsec Aha! Thank you! I was just about to post an update saying that "There is now one toot in the subscription list, so maybe I just have to wait!" 😆
Thanks!

So I like the instance I'm on - qoto.org. I like the moderation rules, some tweaks they've made, and it just seems really well run and nice.
However, I'm an Aussie. And a lot of Aussies are joining aus.social.
Is there a way of following the local timeline of aus.social, from within qoto.org? I tried something called "Domain Subscription" but that doesn't seem to have done anything?

Being a woman in STEM

Today was exhausting.

I asked someone to run a test on some data for me and the response was to assume I didn't know what I was talking about. This is not the first time this person has done this, they are constantly speaking down to me about science. I see how they treat colleagues that are men, and it's completely different from how they treat women.

So anyways, I'm looking for more #WomenInSTEM to connect with here! 🔭🧑‍🔬

@Romaq it's a photo, not a word though. Hence why I want to mute or hide just that one toot.

OK Tuskers. If there's a toot that keeps getting boosted by other people, but I am getting sick of it because it has a photo of chihuahauhuahas which are the ugliest creatures on the planet, is there a way to mute just that toot?
