I just got an official response from mastodon.social over someone from bofa trying to get us silenced for being free speech oriented.

I got an official response from the moderators over there and told will NOT be silenced. They did not find any justification for the report.

Great to hear! You seem to run a great instance and it would be a disservice to the mastodon.social users to silence you.

@Ademan
Thanks, I try hard to be inclusive of everyone. Problem is these days inclusive is seen as oppression, so that isnt an easy task to do without pissing people off. go figure :eyeroll:

@arteteco @absolutus

@freemo @Ademan @arteteco @absolutus I suspect that's also why Twitter/FB also just prefer to say nothing about what they really do on the inside when they decide on account punishment.

@trayofbees
Yea as an admin I can understand why. You will get shit for it no matter how "sane" the choice may be. Mob justice has the flaw that either side of any issue always tends to have its own mob.

@Ademan @arteteco @absolutus

@freemo @Ademan @arteteco @absolutus The wonder of tribalism. And when you take corrective action against any tribal mob--the victimization claims and screaming start real quick

@trayofbees @freemo @Ademan @arteteco @absolutus it also wouldn’t surprise me to know there are people here (generally the fediverse rather than specifically ) with the purpose of fragmenting things by starting fights and then trying to get instances blocked.

@realmattseymour @freemo @Ademan @arteteco @absolutus I think that's happening too. I don't necessarily think that's bad. I am not a believer that having centralized social media is sustainable. There's still plenty of active special interest phpBB boards roaming around. My octogenarian father must be a member on at least 20 boards by now

@trayofbees @Ademan @arteteco @absolutus though I currently see the strength of Mastodon being the fediverse and the ability to interact across instances. If that is prevented the platform loses its appeal to me. I guess it’s the equivalent of blocking a spamming smtp server, but who gets to decide what should be blocked.... I guess we have to trust admins on that. @freemo what’s your line for blocking an instance?

@realmattseymour
We have yet to ever block an instance. So for now its a non-issue. Only reason we might is if it is filled with spam or people who uses to it almost exclusively to avoid personal bans (opening many many accounts and harassing someone from all of it.

We would never ban an instance simply because a member of the instance has distasteful ideas.

@trayofbees @Ademan @arteteco @absolutus

@freemo
You're right. Leave individuals and their opinions to personal mutes and blocks. Only block a whole instance if they spam or exist only to cause trouble.
@realmattseymour @trayofbees @Ademan @arteteco @absolutus

@ster
Agreed. Though bofa is dangerously close to that last part "exist only to cause trouble"...

@realmattseymour @trayofbees @Ademan @arteteco @absolutus

@freemo
In all honesty I don't know the details as I haven't experienced it. It's possible lgbt.io has already blocked it.
@realmattseymour @trayofbees @Ademan @arteteco @absolutus

@ster @freemo @realmattseymour @Ademan @arteteco @absolutus Some instance admins post their blocks as a guide for other instance admins. That's problematic in some respects but only if you trust the entire list.

One of the list makers has a blocklist so long it reads like war and peace lol
