I enjoy things around information theory (and data compression), complexity theory (and cryptography), read hard scifi, currently work on weird ML (we'll see how it goes), am somewhat literal minded and have approximate knowledge of random things. I like when statements have truth values, and when things can be described simply (which is not exactly the same as shortly) and yet have interesting properties.
I live in the largest city of Switzerland (and yet have cow and sheep pastures and a swimmable lake within a few hundred meters of my place :)). I speak Polish, English, German, and can understand simple Swiss German and French.
If in doubt, please err on the side of being direct with me. I very much appreciate when people tell me that I'm being inaccurate. I think that satisfying people's curiosity is the most important thing I could be doing (and usually enjoy doing it). I am normally terse in my writing and would appreciate requests to verbosify.
I appreciate it if my grammar or style is corrected (in any of the languages I use here).

@delroth Yup, it also migrated to Czech, Russian, Belarussian, Lithuanian, and Slovak have similar word for this meaning (according to wiktionary, which also claims that it came from German to Polish).

I assume you're humorously asking for how people view fedi and APub. In that spirit: for me APub is a set of protocols for doing email with mailing lists as first-class citizens.
I think you didn't get the middle one until I sent the top one (or at least the middle one was invisible on your instance's public UI until ~that time -- I checked because this is something that started randomly happening recently; my instance's admins are going to try figuring out what's going on).

There was a grocery store next to my high school that sold something they advertised as "pre-war butter".
It sounds sane to me. The alternative, where `path("/foo") / "/bar"` would mean "/foo/bar" would be extremely confusing, because we then sometimes _silently_ strip the path of its absoluteness (in second argument of `operator/()`), but in other cases we don't. Another variant that'd be not that confusing for me is having `path("/foo") / "/anything/absolute"` error out in some fashion.
@whitequark how did you arrange for an adequate view and what method of finding root depth did you use?
@cstross I recently wondered whether having lived experience as another gender (at least socially and practically) is something that is significantly helpful in transgender people. You made me curious whether transgender writers think that experience helps them.
On the topic of "the Other": what do you find challenging in writing characters that think very differently than you?

- when I press "load more" on _top_ of my feed, some very old posts get loaded (when I instead reload the UI, top of my feed actually contains newest posts),
- amusingly, the "@robryk" link in the left pane (see screenshot) opens a 404 page in the right pane (instead of my profile page).

In the last weeks I see cases when:
- my reply doesn't seem to be propagated to the instance of the person I'm replying to (e.g. https://qoto.org/@robryk/113466284303691885, https://qoto.org/@robryk/113466431766455928, and https://qoto.org/@robryk/113438196768975142),
- a reply made to me doesn't cause a notification to appear (IIRC https://mastodon.social/@_thegeoff/113437771508645893 had that issue).
I don't know if both issues started at the same time. At least in one case of my replies not making their way to the other instance (https://qoto.org/@robryk/113438196768975142) my posts made their way to that instance both before and after, so I would be even more surprised than by default if a relevant blocking relationship existed.
@0xabad1dea But why are they attempting it in Chinese when targetting phone numbers with Netherlands' country code? If they do it at most once per number, wouldn't it make more sense to pick a language the target is more likely to speak?

@koakuma ttbomk the wheel mounts are standardized (the ones that have bushings for pins that are something like 5mm in diameter). I think their height is less standardized, so you might need to buy a set.
This looks extremely similar to a screenshot of some version of pctran, which is very simplified compared to real control systems (i.e. it abstracts away engineering complications unimportant for transient modelling). I expect people to suspect that it's not real at first glance.
You might wish to take a screenshot of something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59hVaIjxMIM, which is somewhat closer to having many of the engineering complications implemented (e.g. compare the boration control setup between the two).
