re-reading the wheel of time book series, and robert jordan sure mentions women reacting to things by “smoothing their skirts” a lot. i’m not sure i’ve ever seen a woman do this in real life

but maybe that’s why the genre for these books is “fantasy”

@pablor @pbump far as i can tell, a lot of folks view the choice as between two evils, and see biden as racist as well, so don’t see that as the deciding factor. my guess is if you were able do psych evals of all trump supporters’ levels of racism, you wouldn’t get back the universal results you’re projecting

@pablor @pbump hm, ok — i thought your original reply *was* equating supporting trump with being racist. if not, maybe we see things more alike than i thought

@pablor @pbump won’t disagree, but that doesn’t mean that’s the only reason any latinos or POC support trump. plenty of genuine people think biden is even more evil for non-racist reasons. not agreeing with them either, but am certain it’s not just hidden self-loathing at play

@pablor @pbump i can’t stand trump, but this is a bad way to look at things. for example, a new mexico-based immigration lawyer friend told me many of his immigrant clients were trump supporters, which baffled him at first. it’s not because they were racist against themselves, which seems to be what you’re claiming

@levisan i had to play w their web settings quite a bit compared to some others to get a nice UI, and elk.zone doesn’t work for it. but yeah it was still the one i felt most comfortable with when i was testing out a bunch

@levisan it’s decent. seems like a good balance as far as tolerance of diverse views but not a pit of nastiness. but as a result it’s also blocked by some instances i wish didn’t (indieweb.social for example), not listed on joinmastodon anymore, etc. so depends how “mainline” an instance you’re looking for.
