I updated my explainer for Manifest V3 and the changes coming to ad blocker browser extensions, since a few things have changed over the past few months. #tech #firefox #chrome #privacy

@levisan hah, i call it a lay-zee desk (as in i lay all zee way down while using it)

one thing i really miss from twitter is the people who would do in-depth threads on history/archaeology/science/trivia topics. do those accounts exist on mastodon?

@CGdoppelpunkt @shafik problem is, “sentence-shaped sentences” is also what humans produce much of the time. chatgpt often makes more sense and says things in a clearer way than many of the people i went to school with and worked with.

@levisan they’re worth it, esp if you wait around for a deal! this one is by monoprice and was less than $60 open box via amazon warehouse. some of them don’t tilt downwards though (like the amazon basics one i had before), so watch for that

My favorite barely noticeable UI detail in Calcish: codebook settings icon. It looks like a standard SF Symbol, but with a twist: it indicates which language features are turned on based on the order of checkboxes.

well, got one dvd burned. waiting on some new discs to do the others. in the meantime, putting the dvd covers together. difficult to find cases in stores nearby, so had to cannibalize some old wii games and movies

@Kancept i never had the chance to use it, but loved mimicking the be and next OS UI's on my mac with kaleidoscope themes.

i had the brilliant idea to do custom DVDs of the "tolkien edit" of the hobbit movies for a father's day gift. now at a friend's house attempting to burn dual layer DVDs on their old imac, and it's not going well. got the message "disc burning failed due to a medium write error" after spending 1.5hr burning the first.

today i’m working on my back. standing desks aren’t just good for standing!

@alan oh, you mean in addition to abortion, not instead… i dunno though. whether and how to end human lives (and how to define them) will always be controversial, i think, and it’s not as if it’s that big a split statistically between men and women on the issue — like single digits difference if i recall

@alan hm, can you expand on this thought? it would definitely make the book less controversial, but would that affect society?

@schizanon i felt this way about “web activity” (despite knowing they were using it to profile me for ads). for years it was a great way to find that thing i’d forgotten to bookmark or see what i was doing on a given day years ago, and then one day i realized most things i do don’t get recorded there anymore. “timing” mac app (and “rewind”) help with that now at least, but i have to make sure they’re running, and mobile support isn’t as good.

trying out the pro trial of mona for mac, and it’s a nice client! especially now that i have the (temporary) ability to tweak the theme colours.

@mike i have that for certain eras of photos of my kids. i think it’s especially times where i wasnt present enough as a dad, but it does get better — especially once i realized that’s what it was and started working on forgiving myself for that (and doing a better job of making sure i dont have the same regrets when i look back at photos of now!)
