a cogent plea for keeping physical libraries available:

@levisan oh nice. i’d love to live in an old church, but a bowling alley would be sick too

i've got that AI heidi trailer theme song stuck in my head today

@mike @levisan especially in a regime like the states where there’s so much complexity and so many loopholes, i get the appeal. similar to proposals to replace the welfare/disability/unemployment bureaucracy with a basic income supplement, i suppose

@mike @levisan didnt take you for a bernie bro! ;) just found out he too advocates for a flat income tax mastodon.social/@Hawkmoon/1107

@mike @levisan if you could drastically reduce gov services it might not have the same effect… but reminds me of basic conditions that led to feudal systems historically, except corps would prob be the main landowners instead of local lords

@mike @levisan i was thinking that without other forms of tax, if we also didn’t tax corps, and without tax brackets, gov would essentially have to make the % for income tax quite high. this would put workers/lower/middle in a more vulnerable position, while corps and wealthier folks likely still have more money than before, so can prob buy up newly vulnerable assets/land. long term, seems like would cause concentration of those assets way beyond what it is now

@derek i was wondering what it was like now since brexit! makes me wonder if smuggling happens to avoid the new tariffs and such

@mike @levisan this combined with the flat income tax seems like it’d lead a society towards corporatist oligarchy/aristocracy in the medium to long term, no?

@levisan but in reality you also wouldn’t be stuck w just one type of tax either, so i maybe i should stick w my theoretically ideal choice

@levisan hm. probably a consumption-level externalities tax, (carbon tax but more holistic) if it was designed well.

although… a land value tax might be better in reality. less prone to manipulation.

slouching like this defeats the ergonomic benefits of the keyboard, you say? maybe, but i'm still typing with my chest open instead of closed, forearm alignment is more relaxed, hands are draped rather than hovering. will def have to watch out for back/neck stiffness of course

slouched split keyboard setup: a "lucky pucker" tripod adapter kit off etsy and some "octopus"-style tripods to mount the moonlander keyboard on. stuffed the tripod legs between the cushions of the chair, adjusted, and presto. (trackpad off to the side on a tablet arm thingy)
