@malcolm ah nice! i hadn’t even heard of it til my friend ben booked it. so curious about georgina island — was told you can’t take the ferry there without an invitation from someone in the tribe?

camped w friends at sibbald point — kayaked the black river, saw lots of cool birds, had good food and beer together, then had a horrible sleep, but still worth it!

@KatLS @muttonchop @pluralistic well, obv cory and ayn don’t share much in terms of worldviews, but can’t deny that she wrote speculative fiction that very much convinced a lot of folks who read it to see the world her way! walkaway seems to me like an anti-atlas shrugged

@ashfurrow@masto.ashfurrow.com i’ve been trying to develop a better attitude about cleaning things. i like organizing/tidying things! but not cleaning. i’ve managed to get a better/meditative mindset about certain cleaning habits — like washing dishes — but have a long way to go elsewhere

@muttonchop @pluralistic walkaway is a great story, and the setting changed how i think about the future! it’s like if ayn
rand was less problematic and longwinded

@rmondello hah! that actually sounds kinda badass though…

Sadly, over 2/3 of us were laid off from SuperHi yesterday. I’ll miss being a part of that team, wish them all the very best! More context: piperhaywood.com/a-long-overdu

I’m looking for new opportunities that would suit a design-adjacent front-end engineer who is passionate about accessibility, documentation, and building maintainable codebases. Ideally looking for a remote role at a USA- or UK-based org, or in-person at an NYC-based org.

Boosts appreciated! 💙

@piper that sucks big time. hope you find something good! checked out your site just now and love the stuff with your story about going from freelance to full-time employment — i did the same, but am now back to freelance and it’s so much better than it was last time! esp in terms of balancing time with kids/house stuff.

@ashfurrow@masto.ashfurrow.com hah! well, as someone who hates cleaning a car, i say more power to them! they can call it super-hero-shazaaming if it makes them feel better about getting crumbs out of all those crevices for us. i didn’t realize people do it for a hobby though

doodling in the sand with my son tuesday evening. just got back last night and miss the shore already!

right around here i stubbed my toe on a buried boulder yesterday, and it’s now purple and swollen (my toe, not the rock)

@cardamomaddict hah, forgotten by who? not by millennials at least — i at least can testify as a millennial (i'm 40) that for people my age, gen x'ers were the cool older kids we wished we could be like

@whateveryouart i have seen occasional pairings of anti-ford and anti-trudeau stickers on vehicles, but it is rare

@cardamomaddict and here i thought it was gen x that were supposed to be the slacker generation!

@mike i can’t nap normally but i love the concept, and treasure the few naps i do have

went out again w eb (after watching hot fuzz) and the sky was even clearer! saw lots of meteors, but also some weird small lights that i thought must be satellites or very high aircraft at first, but they were bobbing/curving through the sky very strangely, and would slowly go in and out of glowing sometimes. a strange variation of meteor? didn’t see them when we were out earlier
