@levisan problem is the internet doesn’t know boundaries and there will always be places these sites can set up shop. i’m a big believer in net neutrality so my support of putting age requirements on hardcore sites leaves me flummoxed as to how i would actually want govs to go about implementing it on a practical level
@levisan yeah, and i’m assuming like 75% of adults who use those sites prob aren’t going to give them their drivers license and credit card. hah. i’m sure that’s a huge underlying thought on both sides tbh — the elephant in the room.
had another brand's "cold IPA" the other day, and was wondering aloud to @Chad whether it was connected to the "ice beer" brewing technique (freeze the beer to remove water). turns out, nope!
in a nutshell, "a 'cold IPA' is an IPA fermented at lower temperatures than what is normally used to ferment an ale"

@levisan my bro-in-law just switched to a flip phone. trying to break his dependency on his smartphone basically
@levisan i know there’s grey area cases — like say a gay baker objecting to doing a cake with a christian fundamentalist message (or vis versa 😉). i can see where things can get taken too far. where do the rights of the baker begin and the rights of the customer end? but the basic arrangement to me is better than any alternatives i can imagine
@levisan ah, well, that right already exists, it’s just trumped by exemptions to prevent prejudicial treatment in certain ways, like based on religion, sex, etc. which i’m grateful for tbh! where i grew up folks would be turned away from places for being christian, for example. glad it’s not like that here
@levisan ohh. yeah. well, in some cases ppl do get paid for their commutes but that’s rare. and that would incentivize people living far from work, penalize folks who maybe pay more to live closer
@levisan like a restraining order anyone can apply to whoever they don’t want to be around?
@levisan isn’t that the definition of being paid per hour?
@levisan what, like freedom of association?
was shocked to find out that was all the real actors voices on the musical episode. and that last episode cliffhanger! i haven’t enjoyed star trek this much since TNG was still on the air, i think!
@caitp @damianogerli my memory is that google was a lot better — at least by the time i tried it in maybe 2000ish. altavista was good, but google quickly blew em out of the water
@damianogerli i remember using basically this pitch for trying google to my altavista-using friends at high school! great time while it lasted…
@seachanger an alternative without the regional spelling issues could be “villages”!
@seachanger the downside will be the british vs american spelling arguments — as a canadian i’m on team “neighbourhood” btw ;)
