@levisan legal is a fun name for a town! yeah, my friend out in a nearby town (burford) gets his sidewalk shoveled by the town/county, yet here in the city of brantford with higher taxes and all, it’s up to each person to do their own (unless you’re in the sad old downtown business improvement area).
@schizanon i’ve wondered if a truly big war broke out, how a draft would work in this day and age. i’m assuming they’d draft both men and women… either way, would get interesting

@levisan not sure they're interpreting private property how most people would. no way technocrats and democratic socialists dont believe in private property, for example.
@nicksherman that's actually just referring to the results for the district of "sena te", little known sister city to "santa fe"
@levisan interesting angle and set of questions — my guess is most people wont be sure what some of the questions mean though, since i didnt and i took poli sci classes + ran for 2 levels of gov.
@bootlessbuck @codinghorror i was gonna say, i’ll stick with my altoids tins which are also functional pieces of (commercial) art, but i also acknowledge that smaller compartments could be nice. and then you tell me about these inserts!
@RadicalAnthro i think i can understand your reaction now that i read it over again. i reacted emotionally, so instead i'll answer in good faith: no, i'm not wanting to deny anything. it's important the truth is told, evidence gathered, facts found, questions answered. doing otherwise not only gives ammunition to those who would rather be able to dismiss what happened, it cheapens the real harms that were done.
@RadicalAnthro haha what? relatives of mine were in the schools and would likely be among the dead. sorry i asked
@RadicalAnthro hey, did you see anything in any of the docs (or elsewhere) going over how many actual bodies have been found so far at the schools (as opposed to "potential bodies" via ground scans)? they must have excavated some places at least by now.
have had family members claim they found much of it was not actual human remains let alone children who can be shown to have had violent deaths, but i am having trouble finding the records that would disprove (or prove) what theyre saying one way or another.
@levisan hah get that crap off my lawn!
i’ve been an avid mac user since i got my first powerbook at age 14, but never felt i could justify paying for airpods, given that i was bound to lose them every other month. but between “find my” tech advances and this hearing augmentation stuff, i’m rethinking that.

@pie yeah i feel that disconnection big time. hard to even know where or how to look people up anymore, much less how to best send them a note!
i'm not mr. AI doomer, and i don't actually dislike a lot of the generative features being added, but can we make it less AI! AI! AI! in-your-face all the time?
examples:
- sleep cycle has been analyzing my sleep patterns for over a decade. great app. gladly paid for it. but loaded it up yesterday after a long break and now they're calling it AI. subtext: "are we cool now that it's a buzzword?"
- today i opened notion and a big "notion AI" nav item's been added to my sidebar. on top of the many "please use AI" prompts popping up across their UI. big pick-me energy.
many such cases!
i feel like a curmudgeon, but it makes me like your products less.
“This is the existential threat that CTOs now face. The scary thing is that most of them don’t even realize it - they’re still operating like it’s 2015, where the goal is hiring and retention. They’re strolling into conversations with their CFOs on ‘productivity’ with developer sentiment surveys in hand.”
@alan hah, funny, i kinda have a similar issue with certain sounds really bothering me that arent harsh at all to others around me. could be psychological maybe though — for example if sounds in music are dissonant "in the wrong way" it feels like it physically hurts me (but i love the "right" kind of dissonance.)
