Every once in a while I get to feeling like my new country, Canada, is a safer place than my birth country, the USA, and then some shit like this happens. The #notwithstandingclause is meant to be the very last resort for lawmakers if the courts won’t let them do their job. So what’s #sk using it to address -- the climate crisis? Wage theft? Imperialist policing? Haha, nope: it’s *people being different*, which if your conservative is the greatest crisis there is.
Google’s widely-opposed ad platform, the “Privacy Sandbox,” has launched in Chrome, directly tracking users based on their browsing habits to sell to advertisers. *It is turned ON by default, and you have to explicitly opt out.*
If you still use Chrome, to disable Google's "advanced" ad tracking, go to Settings>Privacy and Security>Ad Privacy, then disable all three options there (Ad Topics, Site-suggested Ads, and Ad Measurement). See images or the animated GIF here: https://mastodon.social/@docpop/111020685168276797

Well, I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience at #tiff -- Cord Jefferson’s #americanfiction was amazing in many ways, but most of all (for me) in its near-constant laugh-out-loud hilarity. Huge triumph, can’t wait for it to bust some blocks. #tiff23 #tiff2023
Call to action! The #CDC has a public comment open; let it know that you want the new #COVIDBoosters to be recommended for everyone, not just the most vulnerable.
Remember: the higher the percentage of vaccinated and boosted people, the lower risk for vulnerable people.
Go forth and give the CDC hell! demand protection for everyone.
ETA: public comments will be closed in just two days. Docket to comment on: CDC 2023-0060

A new analysis by the IMF finds #Canada is subsidising #fossilfuels to the tune of about 2% of its GDP or $52 Billion CDN. This is close to $1,300 per person per year.

The @eff has an easy script and contact form to write your representatives in the house and senate to urge them to vote against KOSA https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/05/kids-online-safety-act-still-huge-danger-our-rights-online, the bill which marsha blackburn has now openly admitted she wants to use to push trans people offline (https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/senator-admits-kids-online-safety).
Twitter's new privacy policy takes effect 09/29/23, giving them the right to use your posts & all of your data to train musk's "AI."
If you're still over there, now is the time to request your archived data, delete your posts, and stop using that site.

Want Meta to delete any of your personal information used for generative AI?
They actually have a form for this.
They don't make it easy to find, but here's the link:
Who, who could have predicted? #Threads privacy policy says that if you interact with Threads through a third-party service (like Mastodon, for example) by following a user, interacting with Threads content, or allowing a Threads user to follow you, they'll collect information about:
- your account and profile, including your IP address (although Eugen's said Mastodon doesn't share IP address information -- unless THreads can figure a way around it)
- your content, which as worded seems to include all your posts that you don't block Threads from seeing
- and your interactions, worded ambiguously enough ("such as ...") that it's not clear whether or not it only applies to your interactions with Threads posts or potentially also your likes and reshares of non-Threads posts
And of course they'll use this information to
- "personalize and improve Threads and other Meta products" (for example by training their AI models)
- "provide analytics and other business services (including ads)"
- and "to research and innovate for social good" (hahahaha)

LISTEN UP, NON-JEWISH FOLKS.
This is something I haven't really seen gentiles talking about (although there are a few posts about it gaining traction on tumblr and such): there've been a bunch of swattings and bomb threats aimed at synagogues recently, usually during services (especially services that are livestreamed). The high holidays are almost upon us, so this problem is likely to get worse, at least for a while, since that's when most attacks on synagogues happen generally.
Periodic reminder to not use Google Chrome (they’re moderating bookmarks now) https://strangeobject.space/@silvermoon82/110969122337810598
Use Firefox or Safari, they have proper end-to-end encryption (browser maker can’t read the data) of bookmarks and other private and personal browsing information (like your passwords!).
I can’t stress enough just how ridiculous it is that most of you just hand Google your passwords to everything from your bank accounts to porn sites.
