@khird That, indeed, would be an amazing feature. It's kind of weird that the whole instance blocking thing is framed as freedom to not get certain crap. Silencing some servers by default, with effect in some places like hashtag search, is a very sensible thing to do for admins that want to promote certain experience. But imposing wide blocks and pressing all servers to apply the same restrictions is a failure of the federation model.
Woke-fediverse faction happily federates with prostitution servers.
Meanwhile accounts like @NordicModelNow from #Spinster can hardly be seen.
Anyway, it looks like the best workaround is just using multiple accounts to access different partsof the fediverse.
@khird Horrible UX IMHO...
Thank you again.
Meh.
I've been around enough to get a grasp of the UX and social experience on Usenet, IRC, fully decentralized networks like Freenet, centralized corporate social networks and the fediverse.
While the later has many virtues, I think it has important flaws such as the emphasis on admin control instead of user control, as well as the pressure on admins and devs to act as gatekeepers.
I got here after Twitter started its political censorship rampage, and it's not that better. The censorship points are certainly not fully overlapping, but the promise of federation itself as the solution doesn't seem to work that well.
Start your own server? Sure, but unless you want the server to be an isle, you have to apply a lot of restrictions to who you federate with.
@stevenroose @Ca_Gi @isolategab A women-centered server started by people who were banned from other Mastodon servers and @isolategab labels as a Gab operation.
@khird Thanks for the info! Does that silence apply to people replying to threads initiated by someone I explicitly follow?
"While there is a long history of falsely comparing feminists to Nazis, in this case, we find the shoe on the other foot." new post in @4WPub on J.K. Rowling's latest tweet.

@Ca_Gi @stevenroose @isolategab Actually @isolategab is not about Gab anymore. Now it takes some research to find a server where one can follow feminists at #Spinster. And the characterization of Spinster as a Gab spin-off is pure manipulation.
I'm glad I found #QOTO and now I can follow both people at #Spinster and #mastodonsocial. Mastodon.social is a bit like an echo chamber.
