Platforms are rushing to remove images of people holding up the empty pages after protesters made them a symbol to express their frustration at China’s zero-Covid policies.
Searches for the term “white paper” on WeChat and Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, return videos of origami and art, instead of videos of Chinese protesters carrying blank sheets of paper. Weibo had been scrubbed clean of videos of such protests, writes the WSJ.
I’m going to make a thread of our #PsyTeachR resources. We’re a group of psychologists at #UniversityOfGlasgow who are passionate about teaching #OpenScience. We love #rstats, but the R actually stands for #reproducibility. We’ve made a series of textbooks for undergrad and postgrad methods, plus some other resources. All our materials are CC-BY-SA, so you freely use and adapt them.
"The network brings together scientists from over 70 countries and has been making key contributions to the democratization and diversification of psychological research”
“What can happen throughout academia is a siloing of expertise into small clusters of individuals who have direct power relationships with one another. What is exciting about the Psychological Science Accelerator is that this is a grassroots network of individuals from across the globe who have come together to try to disrupt that pattern.” (Suzy Styles)

An examination of over 1 million funding proposals to the National Science Foundation from 1996 to 2019 reveals that white principal investigators are consistently funded at higher rates than most non-white PIs and relative funding rates for white PIs have been increasing. https://elifesciences.org/articles/83071?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=organic_features
@neuralengine @ekmiller I don’t think that many scientists, especially young ones, appreciate the importance of downtime for creativity. When writing Understanding The Prefrontal Cortex (2021, OUP) I had many of the best ideas while having coffee in Blackwell’s bookshop. And in the past I often had ideas for experiments when out jogging.
