Tough few days for our simulation of a future German renewable electricity system. The dreaded dark wind lull forces the model to rely on stored electrolytic hydrogen. But fortunately hydrogen storage was full at the beginning, and has only dropped to a level of 85% so far.

I think it only made me happy? Well, seeing that name made me think about my age, which complicates the picture...
Going to have to see what Gramuglia has to say about turning into a small black pig.
Today was a two Karen day, like male and female bookends they were triggered by my riding a bike they "felt" was: A) Odd for a Black person to be riding; (B) Too expensive for a Black person to be riding, so maybe I'd stolen it?; and (C)
needed to tell me they own a much nicer and more expensive one, at which point I said my food is getting cold I have to leave.
These are my neighbors, and now that Trump has won, will be even more insufferable.

@muiren
Did they say your specific brand of bike was too expensive for a Black person, or was it more that any new bike would be too expensive?
To me it seems very strange to claim that a bike would be too expensive for someone and but also say you own a more expensive one, I just don't think of the bike market as having a structure that makes it plausible to happen.
Honestly I would have expected "black people can learn to bike?" as the more likely type of racist reasoning around bikes.
But I'm neither black nor American, so I obviously know very little about the texture of American racism (in general and in your region specifically).
@franco_vazza
How did he formulate the question? Was it a straightforward "Prove you're really post-doc1, what is the D_{pp}"? Or did he word it more delicately?
And what happened to the real post-doc? Did their phone get stolen?
The landscape in Gaza City is unrecognizable. Compare this spot from a 2021 video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtOFUXP0neQ) and what this UNRWA spokesperson filmed recently
"Y en el amanecer
Cuando todo va cambiando de color
Y vemos aparecer un mundo
Lleno de belleza y de dolor
Dime por qué será?
Dime por dónde vas?
Dime de dónde somos?
Dime?"

There's one reason for hope though, Trump is quite willing to sell himself to *anyone*, so if you have the cash he could be in your pocket instead of Musk's.

I haven't read any complete analysis yet (since good analysis takes time and I'm not informed enough to safely read the quick takes), but from the glimpses I've seen it appears like it indeed was quite close where it mattered (lots of lost democrat votes in places that Harris won anyway), and the big gap in electorates is mostly the usual first past the post distortion.
Like how labour did a landslide recently but got less popular votes than Corbyn when he lost big (I think, but don't rely on my recall of a tweet from three months ago).

Meh, we would beat Russia back from Ukraine if we really sent troops, it just wouldn't be painless.
The full counter invasion all the way to Moscow is of course a much more challenging prospect, probably not possible without going to full war economies and total mobilization if the Americans don't join. But also that is obviously a much different thing from merely deterring Russia from invading the EU propper.
The big problem with the US dropping out of NATO is a loss of capability to invade distant countries beyond the EU border, and of course that the US would consider strikes on EU territory.

Personally I wasn't so surprised, in my online circles the polling was described as very close.
And obviously Trump has already been elected once so it's not really something unthinkable, just depressing. I guess it also helps that Biden proved to be a throughoutly disappointing world leader, in practice just making US foreign policy appear more normal but not really breaking in substance from what Trump provided.
For example, the US returned to the Paris agreement, but only to do the bare minimum to rank above Saudi Arabia and in practice holding the process up from behind the scenes.

Why would an air ambulance count as a private jet when most commercial air travel doesn't? It's all privately owned planes, that's not what makes it a "private jet".
A fourth-grader just told me that she goes to Rainbow Club every week because her friend has two dads and no one should be worried about having two dads so why shouldn’t everyone who isn’t “GLB I don’t remember all the letters but you know” also go to Rainbow Club to help the kids who are worried.
She doesn’t even know the acronym but she knows what’s right.
