What drives me mad while I'm sick? That I can't grocery shop.

So I sent my parents to do the job. I thought my list was very clear, and yet they make a lot of mistakes still...

Next time if I ever need to send them out again, I probably should create a grocery list in the form of a fucking picture book.

I swear this might be my number one reason to hate being sick.

@trinsec is remote shopping not available/ affordable in your area? It’s the go-to option for me when not able or wanting to go shopping, I can choose whatever I want remotely and pay the equivalent of 4 bucks for delivery.
Granted, the remote shopping websites and processes for many shops suck some major ass, but not for all of them.

@Amikke I’m kinda a cheapskate lol. Plus I’ve never done this remote shopping before. Maybe someday, but for this one time I didn’t find it worth the hassle to learn it.

@trinsec I can relate to this on an almost spiritual level 😂

Do y'all have store apps where you can place a pickup order where you pay online and they'll just have it ready for you to grab outside?

In the US we have a "curbside pickup" for cars, and you can place your order in the app and they put it in your trunk (boot) at no extra cost. Maybe there's a rough equivalent?

@johnabs Technically speaking my supermarket chain offers that option... at pickup points in other towns. :/ Bit silly to drive 20 minutes out to pick it up while the supermarket is pretty much around the corner here.

@trinsec Oof, that's super unlucky :( Well, on the bright side, maybe it'll catch on in your town sometime soon?

Speaking of which, what towns offer this option? I'm slowly planning my "escape" and want to know where to investigate first, especially since my wife struggles with shopping in stores since they're so loud and overcrowded (at least in the US).

@johnabs See the maps. ;)

And of course I live in the north. :P I wouldn't want to live in Amsterdam area myself, too busy. You can opt for delivery though. Costs a few euro but it's still a possibility. Just not same-day delivery naturally.

The first two maps is of the Albert Heijn supermarket chain. My favorite supermarket, but their amount of pickup points is lagging behind on Jumbo, my 2nd favorite supermarket... That's the third map.

I like the app of AH more though. Well, if it allows me to log back in... something bugged out. :P But otherwise it's one of the best supermarket apps there is. Jumbo's app is alright.

No clue what other chains (Lidl, Aldi, Dirk, Poiesz, Edah, DEEN, Hoogvliet, MCD, Spar, Vomar, PLUS, Coop... etc... :P) offer. ;) They're smaller chains for the most part, so maybe not much in terms of delivery or pickup.

Chances are that you can just visit the 2-3 ones around the corner wherever in NL and it won't be too busy if you shop at sensible times (early morning, just before closing, etc... don't do a saturday on an afternoon is all I'm saying!)

@trinsec Oh, and I forgot! I hope you feel better soon :ablobattention:

@johnabs Thanks. Currently coughing my lungs out to get rid of the solid slime.

Well, at least the sneezing and nose leaking has stopped... Especially the sneezing was damn annoying.

Now I just have to deal with sore muscles around my ribcage while coughing... :P

@trinsec Sorry to hear about the slime 🤢 I've been there before: I had pneumonia twice as a kid and remember those weeks of hacking up gross gunk in the hospital all too well 😣.

At the very least, you should be able to craft loads of sticky pistons once you're feeling better, so long as you save the tissues 😂

And thanks for the info and maps! Here's hoping for an opportunity to put them to good use in the near future 😉
